Objectives: To assess the permeability of Danshensu at blood-ocular barrier and its characteristics of pharmacokinetics by respectively measuring the concentrations of Danshensu in blood plasma and aqueous humor of the rabbit with the high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC).
Methods: It was an experimental study. Seventy-two white rabbits were split into three groups: control group (6 rabbits), plasma group (6 rabbits) and aqueous humor group (60 rabbits). After 0.85% salt water (control group)or salvia miltiorrhiza (1.0 g/kg) (plasma and aqueous group) was injected into the vein of auris-edge. Samples of blood and aqueous humor were obtained for analysis . The analytical column was a BDS C18 stainless steed column(5 µm, 4.6 mm× 250 mm); Precolumn:YWGC18; the mobile phase consists of acetonitrile and 0.01 mol/L KH2PO4 (8:92, adjusted to pH = 2.8 with phosphoric acid). The UV detector was set at 279 nm; the flow rate was 1.0 ml/min;and the column temperature was ordinary temperature.
Results: The plasma concentration-time curves of Salvia miltiorrhiza fitted three-compartment model. t1/2 β (elimination half time): 5.661 min; Cmax (peak concentration): 727.29 mg/L; Tmax(peak time ): 0 min. The aqueous humor concentration-time curves fitted two-compartment model. t1/2 β: 147.663 min; Cmax: 38.62 mg/L; Tmax: 25 min.
Conclusions: HPLC is a sensitive, specific and accurate method that can be used in pharmacokinetics research on ocular tissue of rabbit for Danshensu, Salvia miltiorrhiza that is dissolvable in water can pass through the blood-ocular barrier after intravenous injection with a relatively stable concentration of danshensu in aqueous humor resulting from a slow rate of removal.
Intraocular pressure (IOP) is regulated through the balance of production and drainage of aqueous humor. The main route of aqueous-humor outflow comprises the trabecular meshwork (TM) and Schlemm's canal (SC). We reported that IL-6 trans-signaling can inhibit TGF-β signaling in TM cells and may affect regulation of IOP.
Case Presentation: A 32-year-old male with a history of left eye keratoconus presented to the emergency department with left eye pain and blurry vision for two days. Out of concern for corneal hydrops, ophthalmology was consulted, and the diagnosis was confirmed. Per ophthalmology recommendations, the patient was started on hypertonic saline and prednisolone eye drops and referred to a corneal specialist.

In a previous study, intravitreal (IVT) adeno-associated virus (AAV) harboring equine interleukin-10 (eqIL-10) cDNA inhibited experimental uveitis in rats.
Ectopia lentis (EL), characterised by impaired zonular fibers originating from non-pigmented ciliary epithelial cells (NPCEC), presents formidable surgical complexities and potential risks of visual impairment. Cataract surgery is the only treatment method for EL, but it leads to the loss of accommodative power of the lens post-operatively. Furthermore, the challenge of repairing zonular ligaments remains a significant global issue.
Background: The EyeCee ONE intraocular lens (Nidek, Gamagori, Japan) has been withdrawn from the market due to a high number of reports of severe ocular hypertension (OHT) following phacoemulsification with implantation of this intraocular lens (IOL). In this case series, we report the results of a toxicological analysis and the surgical management of five patients with severe OHT following the implantation of defective EyeCee ONE IOLs during cataract surgery.
Cases Presentation: Five patients developed early, severe OHT refractory to maximal medical therapy following uneventful phacoemulsification (PCE) cataract surgery with implantation of an EyeCee ONE IOL from a defective lot.
