Unlabelled: Identification of unknown individuals using dental comparison is well established in the forensic setting. The identification technique can be time and resource consuming if many individuals need to be identified at once. Medical CT (MDCT) for dental profiling has had limited success, mostly due to artifact from metal-containing dental restorations and implants.

Description: The authors describe a CBCT reformatting technique that creates images, which closely approximate conventional dental images.

Method: Using a i-CAT Platinum CBCT unit and standard issue i-CAT Vision software, a protocol is developed to reproducibly and reliably reformat CBCT volumes. The reformatted images are presented with conventional digital images from the same anatomic area for comparison.

Conclusion: The authors conclude that images derived from CBCT volumes following this protocol are similar enough to conventional dental radiographs to allow for dental forensic comparison/identification and that CBCT offers a superior option over MDCT for this purpose.

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into dental imaging has led to significant advancements, particularly in the analysis of panoramic radiographs, also known as orthopantomograms (OPGs). One emerging application of AI is in determining gender from these radiographs, a task traditionally performed by forensic experts using manual methods. This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to evaluate the accuracy of AI algorithms in gender determination using OPGs, focusing on the reliability and potential clinical and forensic applications of these technologies.

Background: Endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) and the unfolded protein response (UPR) are adaptive mechanisms for conditions of high protein demand, marked by an accumulation of misfolded proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Rheumatic autoimmune diseases (RAD) are known to be associated with chronic inflammation and an ERS state. However, the activation of UPR signaling pathways is not completely understood in Sjögren's disease (SD).

Children are particularly vulnerable to fatalities from fire incidents, and the crucial role of dentition in the identification processes is well known. Despite this, research on burned deciduous teeth is lacking, often assuming similarities with burned permanent teeth, disregarding their morphological and chemical distinctions. This goal of this study was to investigate the effect of burning on deciduous teeth, focusing on post-burning tooth color assessment.
