Rate responsive dual chamber pacing.

Pacing Clin Electrophysiol

Published: November 1986

We report about a new pacemaker, which simultaneously offers dual chamber pacing in DDD Mode and activity controlled rate response. The system also uses activity-sensing to differentiate true sinus tachycardia from ectopic atrial activity or atrial fibrillation and therefore prevents pacemaker mediated arrhythmias. The clinical experience proves appropriate functioning of all technical aspects of the device. Preliminary noninvasive hemodynamic assessments confirm improvement in cardiac function with AV synchronous pacing mode and demonstrate the ouporiority of rate-responsive dual chamber versus single ventricular pacing.

Although significant strides have been made in cardiac pacing, the field is still evolving. While transvenous permanent pacing is highly effective in the management of bradyarrhythmias, it is not risk free and may result in significant morbidity and, rarely, mortality. Transvenous leads are often the weakest link in a pacing system.

Department of Plastic Surgery, Peking University Third Hospital, Beijing 100191, China.

Objective: To explore the application value of dual chamber round tissue expander in immediate breast reconstruction.

Methods: Sixteen patients, who had been provided immediate tissue expander/implant two-stage breast reconstruction using dual chamber round tissue expander in our hospital from March 2022 to October 2023, were involved in this study, and the relevant information was analyzed retrospectively. The overall design of the expander is a round shape, consisting of two equally divided semi-circular chambers.

Rationale: Thrombus is the most common occupying lesion in the cardiac chambers, it is often distinguished from cardiac neoplastic occupations. Among them, the most common is cardiac myxoma, whose imaging manifestations are often confused with thrombus. However, the 2 types of lesions have different therapeutic strategies and are both potentially high-risk sources of embolism, so early differentiation between intracardiac thrombus and cardiac tumor is essential.

Stable Field Emissions from Zirconium Carbide Nanoneedle Electron Source.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

January 2025

Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-3255, USA.

In this study, a single zirconium carbide (ZrC) nanoneedle structure oriented in the <100> direction was fabricated by a dual-beam focused ion beam (FIB-SEM) system, and its field emission characteristics and emission current stability were evaluated. Benefiting from controlled fabrication with real-time observation, the ZrC nanoneedle has a smooth surface and a tip with a radius of curvature smaller than 20 nm and a length greater than 2 μm. Due to its low work function and well-controlled morphology, the ZrC nanoneedle emitter, positioned in a high-vacuum chamber, was able to generate a single and collimated electron beam with a current of 1.

Purpose: Pacemaker-related infections are serious complications of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs). This case report aims to describe the occurrence of pacemaker pocket infection and recurrent ventricular tachycardia (VT) in a Chinese amateur violinist with sick sinus syndrome (SSS), and to explore the possible connection between occupational habits and the infection, as well as VT.

Methods: A 76-year-old male violinist with a Biotronik Evia DR dual-chamber pacemaker presented with syncope and signs of a pacemaker pocket infection three years after implantation.
