Relatively little research has investigated the association of information sources and the stereotyping of homosexuals in other cultures. This study is a survey of 226 Chinese college students about their stereotypes of homosexuals and their sources of information on gays and lesbians. The stereotyping of homosexuals is predicted by the size of community, interest in knowing homosexuals, and in-person contacts. A higher level of negative stereotypes is associated with frequent usage of Chinese media.

Background: Stigma toward transgender children and adolescents negatively impacts their health and educational outcomes. Contact with members of stigmatized groups can dismantle stereotypes and reduce stigma by facilitating exposure to the unique cognitive and emotional perspectives of individuals within the group. Recent evidence suggests that video-based contact interventions can be as effective as face-to-face encounters, but challenges lie in protecting the identities of transgender youth, since many of them live in stealth.

Stereotypes of White and East Asian Women and Men with Branched Attractions.

Arch Sex Behav

December 2024

Department of Psychology, University of South Florida, 4202 E. Fowler Ave., Tampa, FL, 33620, USA.

People with branched attractions may experience sexual and romantic attractions to different genders; for example, they may be sexually attracted to one gender and romantically attracted to another gender. Because branched attractions may violate folk theories about sexuality, we expected individuals with these attractions to face unique stereotypes. Across three preregistered experiments (total N = 1041), and using predominantly White, non-Latiné, and straight samples, we asked if White (Studies 1 and 2) and East Asian (Study 3) targets with branched attractions are seen as: (1) confused, dishonest, and non-monogamous (bi stereotypes), (2) uncertain about and in denial of their sexuality (instability stereotypes), and (3) desired as sexual objects (fetishized), compared to targets with aligned (same-gender, other-gender, bisexual) attractions.

September 2024

Emeritus Professor of Modern European History, University of Southampton, Southampton, UK.

Lesbian voices and experiences have received little attention in Czech historiography: recent research has concentrated on the modern era from the 1950s. It focuses on two forgotten lesbian novels, and , which were deliberately suppressed after 1948 by the Communist regime as examples of inferior bourgeois literature.

Article Synopsis
  • The term "minor attracted person" (MAPs), originally from pro-pedophile groups, has gained traction in academic circles as a neutral term, sparking controversy over its implications on normalizing pedophilia.
  • A review of peer-reviewed papers from 2015 to 2023 revealed 30 studies that utilized the term MAPs, indicating varied and often conflicting interpretations within the academic discourse.
  • The analysis highlights that framing MAPs as an oppressed sexual minority mirrors the objectives of pro-pedophile advocacy, raising concerns that academic work may unintentionally undermine child sexual abuse prevention efforts due to a lack of awareness of biases.
