Background: The emergence of dementia as a global health challenge necessitates an exploration of its unique epidemiological patterns and risk factors in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Amid a growing elderly population, SSA presents an intriguing paradox of lower-than-expected dementia prevalence, prompting a comprehensive review of epidemiological nuances, lifestyle risk factors, cultural influences, and protective factors. This study critically assessed the current state of dementia research in SSA, aiming to inform tailored interventions and policies.

Rarely, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α inhibitors can paradoxically induce eruptions of psoriasis with generalized pustular psoriasis being among the least common presentations. We report a patient who presented with a generalized pustular eruption following adalimumab therapy for hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). The diagnosis of generalized pustular psoriasis was confirmed with a biopsy showing neutrophilic spongiosis and intraepidermal pustulosis.

Backgrounds And Aims: Preclinical studies suggest that a triglyceride (TG)-independent proinflammatory action of apolipoprotein C-III (apoCIII) exists. We aimed to investigate the relationship between circulating apoCIII levels and subclinical inflammation markers across different cohorts with distinctive inflammatory patterns: patients with metabolic disorders (MDs), patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and controls. Specifically, we assessed the associations of apoCIII with acute inflammation biomarkers (e.

Agricultural soils in karst regions present a remarkable paradox where high geochemical background levels of heavy metals correspond with unexpectedly low crop uptake, challenging traditional risk assessment frameworks and limiting agricultural development. To decode this paradox, we investigated the geochemical speciation of cadmium (Cd), nickel (Ni), and zinc (Zn) in soil-rice systems in southwestern China, which collectively constitute the world's largest continuous karst region and represent diverse soil weathering stages. We employed three chemical extraction methods that revealed reactive pools ranking as Cd (58.

This paper explores the relationship between intuition and flow from a neurodynamics perspective. Flow and intuition represent two cognitive phenomena rooted in nonconscious information processing; however, there are clear differences in both their phenomenal characteristics and, more broadly, their contribution to action and cognition. We propose, extrapolating from dual processing theory, that intuition serves as a rapid, nonconscious decision-making process, while flow facilitates this process in action, achieving optimal cognitive control and performance without [conscious] deliberation.
