Herein, we present a patient who underwent successful repair of failed mitral valve repair in whom intraoperative 3D transesophageal echocardiography provided accurate assessment of the mechanism of mitral regurgitation. In addition, we review the potential advantages and limitations of 3D echocardiography and its role in cardiac surgery.

Background: Resection of calcified meningiomas in the ventral thoracic spinal canal remains a formidable surgical challenge despite advances in technology and refined microsurgical techniques. These tumors, which account for a small percentage of spinal meningiomas, are characterized by their hardness, complicating safe resection and often resulting in worse outcomes than their noncalcified counterparts.
Observations: The authors present the case of a 68-year-old woman with a ventrally located ossified meningioma at the T9-10 level, successfully treated via a posterolateral transpedicular approach.

Clarifying the inceptive pathophysiology of hypertensive heart disease helps to impede the disease progression. Through coarctation of the infrarenal abdominal aorta (AA), we induced hypertension in minipigs and evaluated physiological reactions and morpho-functional changes of the heart. Moderate aortic coarctation was achieved with approximately 30 mmHg systolic pressure gradient in minipigs.

We report the case of a 72-year-old male patient who presented with a progressive aortic arch aneurysm. To reduce surgical trauma, we planned the procedure using an upper partial sternotomy with continuous cardiac perfusion and moderate hypothermia. Two vents were inserted to provide sufficient relief to the heart during perfusion.
