Smartphone application-based augmented reality for pre-clinical dental implant placement training: a pilot study.

Oral Maxillofac Surg

January 2025

Research Center for Digital Technologies in Dentistry and CAD/CAM, Department of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Danube Private University, Steiner Landstraße 123, Krems an der Donau, 3500, Austria.

Purpose: Precise implant placement is essential for optimal functional and aesthetic outcomes. Digital technologies, such as computer-assisted implant surgery (CAIS), have improved implant outcomes. However, conventional methods such as static and dynamic CAIS (dCAIS) require complex equipment.

Background: Posterior laminectomy is a standard treatment for thoracic ossification of the ligamentum flavum (TOLF), but it often leads to neurological deterioration during surgery. This study aimed to reduce iatrogenic neurological deterioration by using an S8 navigation system combined with an ultrasonic osteotome for three-dimensional real-time dynamic visualization decompression.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients who underwent laminectomy and internal fixation for TOLF in our centre from January 2016 to January 2023.

Background: This study aimed to quantify radiation doses during navigational bronchoscopy procedures, comparing them with reported cohorts and evaluating the LungVision (Body Vision Medical Inc.) system's efficacy in dose reduction.

Methods: This retrospective observational study included 52 consecutive navigational bronchoscopy cases, categorized into 4 imaging groups based on the C-arm: Cios Spin (Siemens Healthineers), or OEC 9900 (GE HealthCare); and the 3D tomographic imaging algorithm: Cios Spin's onboard imaging, or LungVision's AI-driven imaging.

Accurate oxygen detection and measurement of its concentration is vital in biological and industrial applications, necessitating highly sensitive and reliable sensors. Optical sensors, valued for their real-time monitoring, nondestructive analysis, and exceptional sensitivity, are particularly suited for precise oxygen measurements. Here, we report a dual-emissive iridium(III) complex, IrNPh, featuring "aggregation-induced emission" (AIE) properties and used for sensitive oxygen sensing.

The purpose of this work is to evaluate the feasibility of lung imaging using 3D electrical impedance tomography (EIT) during spontaneous breathing trials (SBTs) in patients with acute hypoxic respiratory failure. EIT is a noninvasive, nonionizing, real-time functional imaging technique, suitable for bedside monitoring in critically ill patients. EIT data were collected in 24 mechanically ventilated patients immediately preceding and during a SBT on two rows of 16 electrodes using a simultaneous multicurrent source EIT system for 3D imaging.
