We study the real-time dynamics of string breaking in quantum electrodynamics in one spatial dimension. A two-stage process with a clear separation of time and energy scales for the fermion-antifermion pair creation and subsequent charge separation leading to the screening of external charges is found. Going away from the traditional setup of external static charges, we establish the phenomenon of multiple string breaking by considering dynamical charges flying apart.

Generative models have revolutionized de novo drug design, allowing to produce molecules on-demand with desired physicochemical and pharmacological properties. String based molecular representations, such as SMILES (Simplified Molecular Input Line Entry System) and SELFIES (Self-Referencing Embedded Strings), have played a pivotal role in the success of generative approaches, thanks to their capacity to encode atom- and bond- information and ease-of-generation. However, such 'atom-level' string representations could have certain limitations, in terms of capturing information on chirality, and synthetic accessibility of the corresponding designs.

The natural world is full of examples of animals interacting with their physical environment in surprising ways: capuchin monkeys crack open nuts with rocks; dolphins use sponges as 'gloves' on their rostra when searching for prey on the sea floor; and New Caledonian crows manufacture stick tools to pull grubs from logs (Figure 1). Deeper into the phylogenetic tree we continue to see interesting examples of behaviors of this kind, such as octopuses using coconut shells for protection, tuskfish breaking open cockles by hitting them against coral heads, and bees learning to pull string to gain out-of-reach food. These sophisticated behavioral interactions with their physical environment suggest that animals might have a deep understanding of their physical world at a cognitive level.

Two-characters continuation, which is a string with two characters emerging in linear sequence, can break through the encapsulation and independence of long solidified language chunks (words and phrases). In this way, two-characters continuation can measure the information of not only static language units (words and phrases) but also their combination in the text. Therefore, two-characters continuation is used as a measurement unit for investigating Chinese text's difficulty, to enhance the accuracy of measuring text's difficulty.
