Purpose: Osteoporosis is a major health concern among the elderly, underscoring the importance of investigating its prevalence across different geographical regions. There is a current research gap regarding the incidence of osteoporosis and its variation by altitude within Sichuan, China. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of osteoporosis among populations residing at different altitudes in western Sichuan Province.

Background: Previous studies have consistently documented positive associations between depressive symptoms and altitude; however, a longitudinal study of these relationships among middle-aged and older adult community populations in China has not been previously reported.
Methods: We screened 17,705 subjects who met the inclusion criteria from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study database 2011. The altitude is the altitude at which the participants lived in our study area.

To explore the influence of recent high-altitude residential history on the optimal cutoff of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) for detecting abnormal glucose metabolism. The study included 505 self-reported healthy Han participants of age 18-65 years, recruited in Chengdu and categorized based on recent (within 3 months) high-altitude (>2,500 m) residential history. The 1999 WHO criteria was used as the gold standard for defining prediabetes and diabetes.
