Defy Diabetes! was a 2-year grant to Seton Health, Troy, New York, from the New York State Health Foundation to impact diabetes in the state. Development of a program using STEP (Spring into Healthy Habits) from St. John Community Health, Warren, Michigan, to teach Health Living classes in faith communities and monitor diabetes management in primary care offices yielded positive outcomes. This article reports the impact on the faith community nurses from participating in Defy Diabetes! and teaching Healthy Living classes.

Paraoxonase 2 (PON2) is an intracellular anti-oxidant protein ubiquitously expressed in all cells and reduces reactive oxygen species, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, further improves mitochondrial function and thereby shows anti-apoptotic function. In diabetes and its complications this PON gets glycated and becomes in effective. The PON activity is reported to be reduced in diabetic retinopathy and we have earlier showed Carboxy methyl lysine (AGE) decreased PON2 expression and activity in Human retinal endothelial cells (HREC) .

Background: New-onset diabetes in youth encompasses type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, monogenic diabetes, and rarer subtypes like Type B insulin resistance syndrome and ketosis-prone atypical diabetes in African populations. Some cases defy classification, posing management challenges. Here, we present a case of a unique, reversible diabetes subtype.

Diabetes is a chronic disease that is considered one of the most stubborn global health problems that continues to defy the efforts of scientists and physicians. The prevalence of diabetes in the global population continues to grow to alarming levels year after year, causing an increase in the incidence of diabetes complications and health care costs all over the world. One major complication of diabetes is the high susceptibility to infections especially in the lower limbs due to the immunocompromised state of diabetic patients, which is considered a definitive factor in all cases.

Fabry disease (FD) is a rare genetic disorder caused by a deficiency in the α-galactosidase A enzyme, which results in the globotriaosylceramide accumulation in many organs, including the kidneys. Nephropathy is a major FD complication that can progress to end-stage renal disease if not treated early. Although enzyme replacement therapy and chaperone therapy are effective, other treatments such as ACE inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers can also provide nephroprotective effects when renal damage is also established.

Background: Polyneuropathies are characterized by a symmetrical impairment of the peripheral nervous system, resulting in sensory, motor and/or autonomic deficits. Due to the heterogeneity of causes, an etiological diagnosis for polyneuropathy is challenging.
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the main causes of polyneuropathy confirmed by electrodiagnostic (EDX) tests in a tertiary service and its neurophysiological aspects.
