Background: Each year, millions of people in low-and middle-income countries such as Nigeria are forced into poverty and financial ruin due to out-of-pocket (OOP) healthcare expenses. Our study assessed the prevalence and determinants of Catastrophic Healthcare Expenditure (CHE) experienced by households in Lagos, Nigeria.
Methods: A descriptive community-based cross-sectional survey was conducted on 2492 households in Lagos from December 2022 to March 2023 in 4 Local Government Areas (LGAs) using a multistage sampling technique.

Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) is a valuable tool for investigating cellular heterogeneity in diseases such as equine asthma (EA). This study evaluates the HIVE™ scRNA-seq method, a pico-well-based technology, for processing bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) cells from horses with EA. The HIVE method offers practical advantages, including compatibility with both field and clinical settings, as well as a gentle workflow suited for handling sensitive cells.

Background: We previously identified circulating and MRI biomarkers associated with the surgical management of Crohn's disease (CD). Here we tested associations between these biomarkers and ileal resection inflammation and collagen content.
Methods: Fifty CD patients undergoing ileal resection were prospectively enrolled at 4 centers.

Blood microsampling (BμS) has recently emerged as an interesting approach in the analysis of endogenous metabolites but also in metabolomics applications. Their non-invasive way of use and the simplified logistics that they offer renders these technologies highly attractive in large-scale studies, especially the novel quantitative microsampling approaches such as VAMs or qDBS. Herein, we investigate the potential of BµS devices compared to the conventional plasma samples used in global untargeted mass spectrometry-based metabolomics of blood.

: Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is a leading cause of disability and mortality worldwide. Despite advances in interventions such as thrombolysis (TL) and mechanical thrombectomy (MT), current treatment protocols remain largely standardized, focusing on general eligibility rather than individual patient characteristics. To address this gap, we introduce the Stroke-SCORE (Simplified Clinical Outcome Risk Evaluation), a predictive tool designed to personalize AIS management by providing data-driven, individualized recommendations to optimize treatment strategies and improve patient outcomes.
