Background: Axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) is an essential step in the management of breast cancer. ALND is conventionally performed using radio frequency electrosurgery. The post-operative complications of utilizing such energy (such as prolonged drainage time, seroma, or infection) lead to prolonged recovery.

Background: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy with ultrasonic dissection presents a compelling alternative to conventional electrocautery. The evidence for elective cholecystectomy supports the adoption of ultrasonic dissection, citing advantages such as reduced operating time, diminished bleeding, shorter hospital stays and decreased postoperative pain and nausea. However, the efficacy of this procedure in emergency surgery and patients diagnosed with acute cholecystitis remains uncertain.

October 2024

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Lok Nayak Hospital, Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, India.

Background: Severe elbow deformities are common in developing countries because of neglect or as a result of prior treatment that achieved poor reduction. Various osteotomy techniques have been defined for the surgical correction of elbow deformities. However, severe elbow deformities (>30°) pose a substantial challenge for surgeons because limited surgical options with high complication rates have been described in the literature.

Article Synopsis
  • Safe and effective liver tissue removal (parenchymal transection) is essential in hepatectomies, and robotic surgery offers various tools and techniques for this purpose.
  • Key instruments include the Vessel Sealer Extend, which seals vessels but is less effective on tough livers, and the Synchroseal, which has a more delicate design but can experience efficiency issues due to char buildup.
  • Other techniques like the robotic Harmonic Scalpel and ultrasonic aspirators can enhance dissection precision, though they often require skilled assistants, highlighting the importance of combining approaches for optimal results.
