Background/aims: Copper is an essential trace element for normal cellular function and contributes to critical physiological or pathological processes. The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of copper on vascular tone of rat mesenteric artery and compare the effects of copper on noradrenaline (NA) and high K(+) induced vasoconstriction.

Methods: The rat mesenteric arteries were isolated and the vessel tone was measured by using multi wire myograph system in vitro. Blood pressure of carotid artery in rabbits was measured by using physiological data acquisition and analysis system in vivo.

Results: Copper dose-dependently blunted NA-induced vasoconstriction of rat mesenteric artery. Copper-induced vasorelaxation was inhibited when the vessels were pretreated with NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME). Copper did not blunt high K(+)-induced vasoconstriction. Copper preincubation inhibited NA-evoked vasoconstriction and the inhibition was not affected by the presence of L-NAME. Copper preincubation showed no effect on high K(+)-evoked vasoconstriction. Copper chelator diethyldithiocarbamate trihydrate (DTC) antagonized the vasoactivity induced by copper in rat mesenteric artery. In vivo experiments showed that copper injection (iv) significantly decreased blood pressure of rabbits and NA or DTC injection (iv) did not rescue the copper-induced hypotension and animal death.

Conclusion: Copper blunted NA but not high K(+)-induced vasoconstriction of rat mesenteric artery. The acute effect of copper on NA-induced vasoconstriction was depended on nitric oxide (NO), but the effect of copper pretreatment on NA-induced vasoconstriction was independed on NO, suggesting that copper affected NA-induced vasoconstriction by two distinct mechanisms.

Lymphangiomas with the presence of erythrocytes in mesenteric lymph nodes of Wistar Hannover rats.

J Toxicol Pathol

We performed morphological and immunohistochemical analyses of erythrocyte-rich vascular proliferative lesions of mesenteric lymph nodes in six male and one female Wistar Hannover rats. These lesions are conventionally diagnosed as hemangiomas due to abundant erythrocytes. Immunostaining was positive for prospero-related homeobox 1 (Prox-1) and/or vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 3 (VEGFR3) in all lesions, suggesting a lymphangitic origin.

Background: Paternal preconception alcohol exposure affects fetal development; however, it is largely unknown about the influences on offspring vasculature and mechanisms.

Methods: Offspring born form paternal rats treated with alcohol or water before pregnant was raised until 3 months of age. Vessel tone of mesenteric arteries was detected using myograph system; whole-cell calcium channel current in smooth muscle cells was tested using patch-clamp; molecule expressions were detected with real-time PCR, western blotting, and Dihydroethidium (DHE); DNA methylations were determined using targeted bisulfate sequencing assay.

BACKGROUND Obstructive jaundice is a common surgical issue caused by obstruction in the bile ducts, which can result from factors such as stones or cancers in the main bile duct. This study aimed to investigate the effects of carvacrol, a compound known for its strong antioxidant properties, on intestinal damage, liver damage, and bacterial translocation in an animal model of obstructive jaundice. METHODS The study utilized six groups of six Wistar Albino rats each.

Accessibility of simulated submillimetre vessels for training supermicrosurgeons is limited by cost and access to micro laboratory facilities. Common simulation techniques include in vivo rat mesenteric artery, ex-vivo cryopreserved artery, ex-vivo chicken wing or thigh and synthetic models such as silicone tubing. The lowest cost and most readily accessible of these is the chicken wing model (Hayashi et al.

Background/aim: Breast cancers are one of the most common cancers in women and are responsible for many deaths worldwide. Mast cells are inflammatory cells. Their role in cancers is controversial, and there is limited data on systemic mast cell activation in cancer cases.
