Proinflammatory cytokines and heat shock proteins play relevant roles in the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases. We investigated whether Hsp70 1267 A/G and TNF-α -308 G/A polymorphisms are associated with proinflammatory mediators, zinc status and laboratory parameters in 1,078 healthy elderly from ZincAge study. Hsp70 1267 A/G genotype and allele distribution were similar among various European countries, while a TNF-α genetic heterogeneity was observed between the Northern and the Southern European populations, with a major frequency of the -308 A variant in France, Germany and Poland. We used linear regression models to test additive, dominant or recessive associations of each SNP with proinflammatory mediators, laboratory parameters, metallothioneins and zinc status. Hsp70 1267 A/G SNP, but not TNF-α -308 G/A SNP, influences TNF-α and IL-6 plasma levels under additive, dominant and recessive models (for TNF-α only). An association between Hsp70 1267 A/G SNP and zinc plasma levels was observed in the dominant model. In particular, G allele carriers showed increased circulating pro-inflammatory cytokines and zinc. Moreover, both these SNPs affect creatinine levels suggesting a possible influence on renal function. In conclusion, Hsp70 1267 A/G SNP is associated with pro-inflammatory cytokine production in healthy elderly and might represent a possible determinant of individual susceptibility to inflammatory diseases.

Activated carbon fiber (ACF) is a fibrous activated carbon (AC) characterized by high specific surface area (SSA), abundant micropore structure, and excellent machinability, making it an ideal electrode material. This work provided a theoretical basis for the sustainable and large-scale production of high-performance ACF from natural cellulose through fibrillation treatment, papermaking techniques, and CO activation. The effect of fiber fibrillation degree on ACF's structure and electrochemical performance was investigated in detail.

For older Caucasian women and men, the QCT (quantitative CT) lumbar spine (LS) bone mineral density (BMD) threshold for classifying osteoporosis is 80 mg/ml. It was recently proposed that, for older East Asian women, the QCT LS BMD value equivalent to the Caucasian women's threshold of 80 mg/mL is about 45∼50 mg/ml. For a data of 328 cases of Chinese men (age: 73.

Currently, the primary bottlenecks that hinder the widespread application of supercapacitors are low energy density and narrow potential windows. Herein, the hybrid supercapacitor with high energy density and wide potential window is constructed via an in situ self-assembly method employing RGO-induced flower-like MOF(Ni). Benefiting from the synergistic effect between RGO and MOF(Ni), the interfacial interactions are effectively improved, and the contact area with the electrolyte is enhanced, which increases the ion transfer kinetics and overall electrochemical performance.

The practical application of Molybdenum sulphide (MoS) electrodes has been hindered by its structural instability, and poor electrical conductivity. To enhance the cycle stability and rate performance of MoSin lithium/sodium-ion batteries (LIBs/SIBs), we synthesized a graphene-supported MoScomposite (MoS@rGO) with affluent covalent bridged bonds through a facile and scalable hydrothermal and annealing process. The covalent bridged bonds of Mo-S-C, Mo-O-C and C-O-S provide an effective charge transfer path between MoSand graphene, facilitating fast charge hopping and improving rate performance.

Influenza A Virus (IAV) is a recurring respiratory virus with limited availability of antiviral therapies. Understanding host proteins essential for IAV infection can identify targets for alternative host-directed therapies (HDTs). Using affinity purification-mass spectrometry and global phosphoproteomic and protein abundance analyses using three IAV strains (pH1N1, H3N2, H5N1) in three human cell types (A549, NHBE, THP-1), we map 332 IAV-human protein-protein interactions and identify 13 IAV-modulated kinases.
