We report the successful use of sodium thiosulfate in a patient with juvenile dermatomyositis complicated by ulcerative skin disease and progressive calcinosis. This therapy may have a role in improving calcinosis, even if more studies are necessary to determine the safety and efficacy of this treatment in juvenile dermatomyositis-related calcinosis.

Two-dimensional (2D) hybrid materials, particularly those based on boron nitride (BN) and graphene oxide (GO), have attracted significant attention for energy applications owing to their distinct structural and electronic properties. BN/GO composites uniquely combine the mechanical strength, thermal stability and electrical insulation of BN with the high conductivity and flexibility of GO, creating advanced materials ideal for the fabrication of batteries, supercapacitors and fuel cells. These hybrids offer synergistic effects, enhanced charge transport, increased surface area, and improved chemical stability, making them promising candidates for high-performance energy systems.

The cardiovascular risks linked to PM include calcification in both vasculature and myocardial tissues, leading to structural changes and functional decline. Through the selection of a clinically proven endogenous agent, sodium thiosulfate (STS), capable of addressing PM related cardiac abnormalities, we not only address the absence of effective solutions to mitigate PM toxicity, but also provide evidence for the repurposing potential of STS in ameliorating PM induced cardiac damage. Calciphylaxis is a rare and serious disorder characterized by vascular calcification and occlusion of the microvessels in the dermis, subcutaneous adipose tissue, visceral organs, and musculature. Studies have suggested that the major risk factors for developing calciphylaxis are chronic kidney disease and secondary hyperparathyroidism. Its diagnosis is clinical, and the treatment includes a multidisciplinary approach, although there are no clinical protocols based on randomized clinical trials.

Calciphylaxis is a rare and potentially fatal condition involving chronic, nonhealing wounds caused by microvascular calcification. There is currently no approved treatment for calciphylaxis, contributing to its devastating impacts on quality of life. In this case series, the authors highlight instances of potentially misdiagnosed calciphylaxis in a cohort of patients and emphasize the importance of accurate diagnosis through multidisciplinary management approaches.
