29 children and 3 adults with acute depression of conscious level or acute onset of focal neurological signs were studied prospectively. 3 were found to have a non-infectious cause for their illness. The presence of interferon or specific antibodies in the serum and/or cerebrospinal fluid provided evidence of active virus infection in 25 of the remaining 29 patients. There was laboratory evidence that a virus had invaded the central nervous system in 11 patients. Early investigation gave the highest diagnostic yield. Since several common viruses were identified, it appears that the nature of the illness is due more to the host response than to the nature of the infective agent.

Purpose: To determine the feasibility of mapping interdisciplinary role ownership over actionable practices identified from qualitative comments in the Veterans Affairs Bereaved Family Survey (BFS).
Methods: We polled two providers from each of 14 disciplines as to whether an actionable practice that improved end-of-life care quality sits within their scope of practice. We grouped practices by having the greatest, middle, and fewest number of disciplines that claimed role ownership and then characterized what roles were shared.

The hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG) is thought to orthogonalize inputs from the entorhinal cortex (pattern separation) and relay this information to the CA3 region. In turn, attractor dynamics in CA3 perform a pattern completion or error correction operation before sending its output to CA1. In a mouse model of congenital hypoplasia of the DG, a deficiency in the (Wls) gene, specifically in cells expressing , which targets neuronal progenitors, led to an almost total absence of dentate granule cells and modestly impaired performance in spatial tasks.

Algorithmic reaction explorations based on transition state searches can now routinely predict relatively short reaction sequences involving small molecules. However, applying these algorithms to deeper chemical reaction network (CRN) exploration still requires the development of more efficient and accurate exploration policies. Here, an exploration algorithm, which we name yet another kinetic strategy (YAKS), is demonstrated that uses microkinetic simulations of the nascent network to achieve cost-effective, deep network exploration.

Healthcare providers (HCPs) play a critical role in the care of women with experience of FGM/C although there is limited research on knowledge about FGM/C among HCPs in Canada and USA. Research evidence suggests that many women with experience of FGM/C have negative care experiences. We sought to investigate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of Canadian and USA HCPs regarding FGM/C, along with women's healthcare experiences with FGM/C in both countries.
