We review a unique set of documents, death certificates, cataloged in the U.S. Air Force Mortality Registry database, which tracks deaths for all current and retired service members. We screened the records for all deaths caused by parasitic, vector-borne, or zoonotic diseases between 1970 and 2013. There were 78 deaths caused by a variety of diseases such as amebiasis, malaria, strongyloidiasis, schistosomiasis, and pneumocystosis. We compare these deaths to U.S. national deaths. U.S. Air Force service members are more likely to die from malaria, strongyloidiasis, and Q fever than the average American but are less likely to die from pneumocystosis.

To investigate the clinicopathological features, diagnosis, genetic alterations, and biological behaviors of hamartomatous inverted hyperplastic polyp (HIHP) in the gastrointestinal tract. The clinical, sonographic, endoscopic and pathologic data of 10 HIHP cases diagnosed at the First Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Medical University, Xi'an, China from January 2013 to March 2024 were collected. Their clinicopathological features and histological morphology were analyzed.

α-Terpineol and 1,8-cineole are two important compounds in essential oils. This study developed an efficient method to recover α-terpineol from model oil (MO) based on association extraction by in situ formations of deep eutectic solvent (DES) between α-terpineol and some quaternary ammonium salts (QASs) by hydrogen-bond (HB) interaction. Such interaction could be broken almost completely by the introduction of water, due to the stronger HB interaction between water and QASs, which could release α-terpineol by liquid-liquid separation and save the organic solvents consumption.

Background: Hypertrophic scar (HS) is a severe skin fibrosis. Transplanting stem cells carrying anti-fibrotic cytokine genes, like interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), is a novel therapeutic strategy. Human amniotic epithelial cells (hAECs) are ideal seed cells and gene vectors.

They have the same membrane composition and characteristics as primitive cells, which enables them to penetrate cells and tissues efficiently. These OMVs exhibit excellent membrane stability, immunogenicity, safety, and permeability (which makes it easier for them to penetrate into tumour tissue), making them suitable for developing cancer vaccines and drug delivery systems.

Background: Respiratory viral infections are a major public health challenge and the most diagnosed medical condition, particularly for individuals living in close proximity, like military personnel. We compared the sensitivity and specificity of the Biomeme Franklin and Truelab RT-PCR thermocyclers to determine which platform is more sensitive and specific at detecting SARS-CoV-2 and influenza A and B viruses.
Methodology: RNA extracted from nasopharyngeal swabs of infected and uninfected individuals was tested on the Biomeme Franklin at Lackland and the Truelab at Wright Patterson Air Force bases.
