The histamine pathway is a target to treat hepatic experimental erythropoietic protoporphyria.

Cell Mol Gastroenterol Hepatol

January 2025

Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine, Rutgers University, Piscataway, NJ, USA. Electronic address:

Background & Aims: Erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP) is caused by mutations in ferrochelatase which inserts iron into protoporphyrin-IX (PP-IX) to generate heme. EPP is characterized by PP-IX accumulation, skin photosensitivity, cholestasis, and end-stage liver disease. Despite available drugs that address photosensitivity, treatment of EPP-related liver disease remains an unmet need.

Numerous naturally occurring biological structures have inspired the development of innovative biomaterials for a wide range of applications. Notably, the nanotopographical architectures found in natural materials have been leveraged in biomaterial design to enhance cell adhesion and proliferation and improve tissue regeneration for biomedical applications. In this study, we fabricated three-dimensional (3D) chitin-glucan micro/nanofibrous fungal-based spheres coated with collagen (type I) to mimic the native extracellular matrix (ECM) microenvironment.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of double filtration plasmapheresis combined with immunosuppressive agents in the treatment of severe lupus nephritis.

Method: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the medical records of 102 cases of severe lupus nephritis treated between January 2021 and December 2022 in the General Practice Department at the Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College. Patients who received immunosuppressive agents were included in the control group and those who received additional double filtration plasmapheresis were included in the observation group.

Department of Medicine, Medical Teaching Institution (MTI) Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar, PAK.

Background Chronic diseases such as chronic kidney disease (CKD), chronic liver disease (CLD), tuberculosis (TB), dementia, and heart disease are global health concerns of significant importance, representing major causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Early diagnosis and interventions are critical to improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs. Methods This prospective observational study analyzed clinical data from 270 patients (calculated using G*Power 3.

Introduction: Myelofibrosis (MF) is often characterized by a multifactorial anemia determined, in part, by bone marrow (BM) fibrosis, extramedullary erythropoiesis and splenomegaly. Ruxolitinib (RUX) is the first-in-class janus kinase 2 (JAK2) inhibitor approved for treatment of MF, proved to reduce spleen volume and decrease symptom burden. The red cell distribution width (RDW) is the measure of erythrocyte volume variability (anisocytosis).
