Published: March 2014

The measurement procedure of the open area in situ electric field strength is presented, acquiring the real field data for testing of the Serbian electromagnetic field monitoring network (SEMONT) and its Internet portal. The SEMONT monitoring system introduces an advanced approach of wireless sensor network utilization for the continuous supervision of overall and cumulative level of electromagnetic field over the observed area. The aim of the SEMONT system is to become a useful tool for the national and municipal agencies for the environmental protection, regarding the electromagnetic pollution monitoring and the exposure assessment of the general population. Considering the public concern on the potentially harmful effects of the long-term exposure to electromagnetic radiation, as well as the public transparency principle that is incorporated into the Serbian law on non-ionizing radiation protection, the SEMONT monitoring system is designed for the long-term continuous monitoring, presenting real-time measurement results, and corresponding exposure assessment over the public Internet network.

3D Model to Understand the Diagnosis and Treatment of Horizontal Canal BPPV.

Turk Arch Otorhinolaryngol

June 2022

Department of Audiometry Vocational School of Health Services, Dokuz Eylül University, İzmir, Turkey.

Objective: Our primary objective was to develop a three-dimensional (3D) model of the vestibular labyrinth to understand the pathophysiological mechanisms of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) observed during common diagnostic positional tests. We secondarily aimed to monitor the effects of the repositioning maneuvers and use this tool in teaching.

Methods: A 3D model of a human semicircular canals (SSCs) system was created by 3D printing the core and assembling it with silicone tubing filled with lubricant oil containing colored small stones in the lumen mimicking otoconia.

The spectroscopic methods commonly used to study mitochondria bioenergetics do not show the diversity of responses within a population of mitochondria (isolated or in a cell), and/or cannot measure individual dynamics. New methodological developments are necessary in order to improve quantitative and kinetic resolutions and eventually gain further insights on individual mitochondrial responses, such as studying activities of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP ). The work reported herein is devoted to study responses of single mitochondria within a large population after isolation from cardiomyocytes.

Wireless networks traffic has experienced a considerable growth in recent years. Likewise, it is to be expected that billions of objects will be connected to the Internet in years to come, many of them wirelessly. Such increase in a number of wireless connections and the inevitability of wireless communications in proximity of users highlight the healthcare concern on electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure.

Between 1995 and 2001, eight Italian clinical centres used the same diagnostic and therapeutic protocol in order to assess the clinical progress of paroxysmal positional vertigo and the benefits of an appropriate follow-up in prevention of relapse. The study population comprises 794 patients affected by paroxysmal positional vertigo. The study protocol comprised diagnostic staging including a complete otoneurological test, an anamnestic questionnaire aimed at identifying any possible risk factor, a blood test in basal conditions and monitoring of blood pressure.
