[Structural design of "fitness" and "feasibility" of body-fitted stent and its mechanical analysis].

Sheng Wu Yi Xue Gong Cheng Xue Za Zhi

August 2024

College of Chemistry and Life Science, Beijing University of Technology, Beijing 100124, P. R. China.

To address the conflict between the "fitness" and "feasibility" of body-fitted stents, this paper investigates the impact of various smoothing design strategies on the mechanical behaviour and apposition performance of stent. Based on the three-dimensional projection method, the projection region was fitted with the least squares method (fitting orders 1-6 corresponded to models 1-6, respectively) to achieve the effect of smoothing the body-fitted stent. The simulation included the crimping and expansion process of six groups of stents in stenotic vessels with different degrees of plaque calcification.

The 2016 Severe Floods and Incidence of Hemorrhagic Fever With Renal Syndrome in the Yangtze River Basin.

JAMA Netw Open

August 2024

Department of Vector Control, School of Public Health, Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University, Shandong Province, Jinan, People's Republic of China.

Importance: Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS), a neglected zoonotic disease, has received only short-term attention in postflood prevention and control initiatives, possibly because of a lack of evidence regarding the long-term association of flooding with HFRS.

Objectives: To quantify the association between severe floods and long-term incidence of HFRS in the Yangtze River basin and to examine the modifying role of geographical factors in this association.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This cross-sectional study collected data on HFRS cases between July 1, 2013, and June 30, 2019, from 58 cities in 4 provinces (Anhui, Hubei, Hunan, and Jiangxi) in the Yangtze River basin of China, with a breakpoint of flooding in July 2016, generating monthly data.

Article Synopsis
  • Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs) are compact and efficient single photon detectors that are becoming popular in space applications due to their advantages over traditional photomultiplier tubes, especially in low-power and weight-constrained environments.
  • Exposure to high levels of radiation during space missions can negatively impact SiPM performance, prompting research into understanding and improving their radiation damage effects.
  • The study involved irradiating small area NUV-HD SiPMs and showed that proton damage primarily increases dark count rates, but smaller devices demonstrated better resilience, suggesting future designs could focus on light or charge-focusing mechanisms for enhanced radiation tolerance.

US County-Level Variation in Availability and Prevalence of Black Physicians in 1906.

JAMA Netw Open

May 2024

Department of Social Policy and Intervention, University of Oxford, Oxford, United Kingdom.

Importance: Black physicians are substantially underrepresented in the US health care workforce, with detrimental effects on the health and health care experiences of Black individuals. These contemporary gaps can be traced to the early days of the medical profession using the first edition of the American Medical Directory (AMD).

Objective: To identify state- and county-level patterns related to the training and availability of Black physicians relative to their White counterparts in the 1906 AMD.

GIS and remote sensing techniques were effectively used to analyse the morphometric parameters including linear, geometric, basin texture (aerial) and relief aspects of the Halda River Basin, Bangladesh. Along with measuring the morphometric parameters using predetermined formulas, advanced geo-computing tools of spatial analysis, cartography, math, geoprocessing and geometric analysis were employed to carry out the spatial distribution of selected parameters, especially aerial parameters. The linear aspect indicates the basin is six-order and oval-shaped.
