Dependent personality disorder (DPD) has evolved from an abstract idea rooted in a historic and psychoanalytic context to a codified diagnosis in the DSM-IV-TR. This comprehensive review paper chronicles the evolution of DPD through each version of the DSM. Major topics relevant to the disorder are also investigated, including gender and cultural considerations, stability and manifestations of DPD across different developmental stages, comorbidity issues, and others. The purpose of this review is to provide a broad yet comprehensive examination of the complex angles of maladaptive dependency and to identify essential next steps in furthering our knowledge of this disorder. The paper concludes with a discussion of shortcomings in the body of research relevant to DPD, along with specific suggestions for improvement in this field of study.

Critical thermal maximum (CT) is the most widely used method for quantifying acute upper thermal limits in ectotherms. CT protocol exposes animals to a consistent rate of environmental warming until they lose motor function. CT has been used to assess intraspecific variation among life stages, populations, or as a function of body size, often with the assumption that it is a durable and heritable trait at the individual level.

Behavioural plasticity is an important mechanism allowing animals to cope with changing environments. Theory has hypothesized the existence of 'plasticity syndromes'-positive correlations in plasticity across multiple behaviours within an individual-affording a generalized ability to respond to environmental change. However, the occurrence of correlated plasticities and their potential fitness consequences in natural populations remain untested.
