Subpial hemorrhage (SPH) is a rare but significant cause of neonatal seizures and respiratory distress, primarily affecting full-term infants without apparent risk factors. We report the case of a full-term newborn who presented with recurrent episodes of apnea, desaturation, and seizures shortly after birth. MRI revealed an acute hemorrhagic collection in the left temporal region, accompanied by cortical cytotoxic edema.

Multimorbidity is the co-occurrence of multiple chronic health problems, associated with aging, frailty, and poor functioning. Children born preterm experience more multimorbid conditions in early life compared to term-born peers. Though neonatal multimorbidity is linked to poor health-related quality of life, functional outcomes, and peer group participation, gaps in our theoretical understanding and conceptualization remain.

Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) is an under-recognized condition with only a small minority of affected individuals detected, long delays between initial symptoms and diagnosis, and evidence that affected individuals may see many physicians with suggestive symptoms before an initial diagnosis is made. In the context that failure to detect AATD confers harm and that specific therapy is currently available, there is a clear need for enhanced detection.
