We describe noncollinear third-harmonic Maker fringes for the determination of third-order optical nonlinearities. This method builds on the same principles as conventional Maker fringes experiments, but thanks to the limited interaction length of two intersecting beams, it allows to eliminate the requirement of taking into account the contribution of air to the third-harmonic signal. Thus, third-order susceptibilities can be accurately determined without the need for a vacuum chamber. We review the theoretical underpinnings of the method, and discuss the dependence of the coherence length for harmonic generation on the intersection angle between the beams and the sample orientation, and the effect this has on the Maker fringes pattern.

Electric field induced second harmonic (EFISH) measurements are performed on thin films of arsenic sulfide deposited on chromium coated fused silica substrates by thermal evaporation of amorphous AsS bulk material. EFISH allows to widely tune the second-order optical susceptibility (χ). An observed shift of the minimum of the second harmonic generation (SHG) intensity away from 0 V reveals a non-EFISH bulk χ, which is unexpected for amorphous materials.

We demonstrate a hybrid nanocomposite combining mesoporous silica, p , as a host medium and guest lithium niobate nanocrystals embedded into tubular silica nanochannels by calcination of the precursor mixed solution of lithium and niobium salts. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and Raman scattering techniques reveal trigonal nanocrystals within the p nanochannels, indicating their random texture morphology. Annealing at high temperatures ( 950 C) during calcination also leads to partial crystallization of the p matrix with the formation of trigonal - nanocrystals.

Living donation increases the organ supply, but associated non-medical expenses can disincentivize donation. Programs aimed at increasing living donation need to better understand how financial obstacles, including lost wages, impact the decision to pursue donation. Forty-eight interviews were conducted and analyzed using a grounded theory approach.

Which aspects of job determine satisfaction among pharmacists working in Saudi pharmacy settings?

PLoS One

August 2023

Department of Pharmacy Practice, School of Pharmacy, University of Reading, Whiteknights Campus, Reading, United Kingdom.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of several employment-related aspects on overall job satisfaction among pharmacists working in Saudi pharmacy settings.

Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted for a period of 1-month (December 2020) among pharmacists working in community pharmacies located in 3 cities of Saudi Arabia. Convenience sampling was employed, and the data was collected using the English version of Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS) questionnaire.
