Antibiotics are used extensively in the treatment of various infections. Consequently, they can be considered among the most important agents involved in adverse reactions to drugs, including both allergic and non-allergic drug hypersensitivity [J Allergy Clin Immunol 113:832-836, 2004]. Most studies published to date deal mainly with reactions to the beta-lactam group, and information on hypersensitivity to each of the other antimicrobial agents is scarce. The present document has been produced by the Special Committee on Drug Allergy of the World Allergy Organization to present the most relevant information on the incidence, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, possible mechanisms, and management of hypersensitivity reactions to non beta-lactam antimicrobials for use by practitioners worldwide.

Symmetrical drug-related intertriginous and flexural exanthema (SDRIFE) is a rare, symmetrical skin eruption triggered by various medications, predominantly beta-lactam antibiotics. We report the case of a 69-year-old male with moderate-to-severe ulcerative colitis who developed SDRIFE following the seventh intravenous administration of infliximab. The patient presented with symmetrical, pruritic erythema in the cubital and popliteal fossae, groins, gluteal and retroauricular regions without systemic involvement.

Domain antibodies such as monobodies provide an attractive immunoglobin fold for evolving high-affinity protein binders targeting the intracellular proteins implicated in cell signalling. However, it remains a challenge to endow cell permeability to these small and versatile protein binders. Here, we report a streamlined approach combining orthogonal crosslinking afforded by a genetically encoded β-lactam-lysine (BeLaK) and genetic supercharging to generate cell-penetrating monobodies.

A diastereospecific synthesis of vicinally substituted 2-oxazolidinones from α,β-unsaturated lactams using -chloroperoxybenzoic acid is reported. Several highly substituted 2-oxazolidinones were obtained in 19-46% yields in a one-pot reaction with complete control over the relative stereochemistry. The proposed reaction sequence consists of a Baeyer-Villiger oxidation, an epoxidation, and a concerted rearrangement.

Introduction Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are one of the most common bacterial infections encountered in community and healthcare settings. Increasing antimicrobial resistance patterns worldwide have limited the treatment options available. Overuse of carbapenems which were considered as the last resort for multi-drug resistant UTIs over the past decade has led to the emergence of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE).
