Background: The assessment of driving-relevant cognitive functions in older drivers is a difficult challenge as there is no clear-cut dividing line between normal cognition and impaired cognition and not all cognitive functions are equally important for driving.
Methods: To support decision makers, the Bern Cognitive Screening Test (BCST) for older drivers was designed. It is a computer-assisted test battery assessing visuo-spatial attention, executive functions, eye-hand coordination, distance judgment, and speed regulation. Here we compare the performance in BCST with the performance in paper and pencil cognitive screening tests and the performance in the driving simulator testing of 41 safe drivers (without crash history) and 14 unsafe drivers (with crash history).
Results: Safe drivers performed better than unsafe drivers in BCST (Mann-Whitney U test: U = 125.5; p = 0.001) and in the driving simulator (Student's t-test: t(44) = -2.64, p = 0.006). No clear group differences were found in paper and pencil screening tests (p > 0.05; ns). BCST was best at identifying older unsafe drivers (sensitivity 86%; specificity 61%) and was also better tolerated than the driving simulator test with fewer dropouts.
Conclusions: BCST is more accurate than paper and pencil screening tests, and better tolerated than driving simulator testing when assessing driving-relevant cognition in older drivers.

A novel adaptive model-based motion control method for multi-UAV communication relay is proposed, which aims at improving the networks connectivity and the communications performance among a fleet of ground unmanned vehicles. The method addresses the challenge of relay UAVs motion control through joint consideration with unknown multi-user mobility, environmental effects on channel characteristics, unavailable angle-of-arrival data of received signals, and coordination among multiple UAVs. The method consists of two parts: (1) Network connectivity is constructed and communication performance index is defined using the minimum spanning tree in graph theory, which considers both the communication link between ground node and UAV, and the communication link between ground nodes.

The urban agglomeration represents the predominant form of new urbanisation, yet the evolution of its internal spatial structure exhibits pronounced spatial and temporal heterogeneity. This study concentrates on the Bohai Rim urban agglomeration, one of three major urban agglomerations in China, which has received comparatively limited research attention but has also undergone substantial urbanisation. Therefore, we reassessed and explored the spatial-temporal evolution of the spatial structure of urban expansion using Exploratory Spatiotemporal Data Analysis (ESTDA), and summarized the driving mechanisms using Geographically and Temporally Weighted Regression (GTWR).

Traditional sprayers are limited to applying spray mixture solely to the upper surfaces of crops. To overcome this limitation, a variable angle spraying machine (VASM) was designed using a linkage system. This machine enables the adjustment of both the spray position and angle through a single input signal, facilitating multi-directional spraying from the top to the bottom of crops.

Predicting steady-state volume of distribution (V) is a key component of pharmacokinetic predictions and often guided using preclinical data. However, when bottom-up prediction from physiologically-based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) models and observed V misalign in preclinical species, or predicted V from different models varies significantly, no consensus exists for selecting models or preclinical species to improve the prediction. Through systematic analysis of V prediction across rat, dog, monkey, and human, using common methods, a practical strategy for predicting human V, with or without integration of preclinical PK information is warranted.

Investigations into whether playing action video games (AVGs) benefit other tasks, such as driving, have traditionally focused on gaming experience (i.e., hours played).
