Burn-related neuropathic pain (BRNP) can arise following burn-induced nerve damage, affects approximately 6% of burned human patients and can result in chronic pain. Although widely studied in humans, data on BRNP or its treatment in animals is lacking. A 4-year-old domestic shorthair cat was presented with an infected, non-healing wound suspected to be a caustic burn.

Burn injuries often result in severe hand complications, including joint contractures and nerve damage, sometimes leading to amputation. Despite early treatment, hypertrophic scarring frequently hampers hand function recovery, and the thick raised scar blocks electromyography (EMG) sensing. A promising solution involves motion-mimicking robotic finger prostheses tailored to individual patient requirements.

Continuous negative abdominal pressure (CNAP) therapy effectively provides respiratory support in patients with respiratory failure and severe obesity; however, its use in clinical practice remains limited. In this case, we report a significant improvement in the respiratory condition of a patient with severe obesity and inhalation burns following the application of CNAP in addition to venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (V-V ECMO) and mechanical ventilation. The patient was able to wean off these devices successfully.

Thermal and chemical burns can result in cicatricial eyelid retraction, characterized by an abnormal resting position of the eyelid margin and increased palpebral fissure height. Eyelid retraction often leads to exposure keratopathy, which can cause complications ranging from mild dry eye to globe-threatening ulceration and perforation. Prompt intervention includes aggressive lubrication, moisture chambers, eyelid tarsorrhaphy, and retraction repair surgery.
