Under certain exposure conditions, femtosecond lasers create nanogratings in the bulk of fused silica for which the orientation is governed by the laser polarization. Such nanostructure induces stress that affects optical and chemical properties of the material. Here, we present a method based on optical retardance measurement to quantify the stress around laser affected zones. Further, we demonstrate stress dependence on the nanogratings orientation and we show that the stress within single nanogratings lamellae can locally be as high as several gigapascals.

The Desert oasis ecotone (DOE) protects the oasis from wind and sand intrusion, thereby playing a crucial role in controlling desertification. However, there is limited knowledge about how DOE functions in windproof and sand-fixation. Therefore this study employs a three-dimensional (3D) laser scanner to monitor surface accumulation and erosion, and through field observations, collects data on wind profiles, grain size, and sand transport rates to uncover the role of DOE in aeolian sand protection.

Fluorescence spectroscopy employed to compute the antibacterial potential of pure ZnO and Titania (TiO) loaded ZnO (TiO: 2%, 4%, 6%, and 8%) electrospun nanofibers. The study of electrospun nanofibers followed by their structural, morphological and antibacterial properties has been revealed through fluorescence spectroscopy. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis of nanofibers calcinated at 600 °C revealed the presence of polycrystalline wurtzite hexagonal crystallographic planes of ZnO with preferred orientation along (101) direction.

Introduction: The presence of wounds in addition to the excision-induced wounds after severance from the stock plants is known to positively influence adventitious root formation of woody plant cuttings. Previous morphological studies highlighted laser wounding as a technique allowing to precisely control the decisive ablation depth. However, the biochemical processes involved in the response of rooting to the additional wounding remained unexplored.

Background: Ablative fractional CO laser (10,600 nm) treatment creates an array of microscopic treatment zones composed of an ablation zone (AZ) surrounded by a denatured coagulation zone (CZ). The CZ is believed to play a functional role in skin tightening, posttreatment inflammation, and laser-assisted drug delivery. This study investigates the viability of enzymatic post-processing to remove the CZ without affecting the surrounding tissue.
