In this paper, we propose two novel shape descriptors, angular pattern (AP) and binary angular pattern (BAP), and a multiscale integration of them for shape retrieval. Both AP and BAP are intrinsically invariant to scale and rotation. More importantly, being global shape descriptors, the proposed shape descriptors are computationally very efficient, while possessing similar discriminability as state-of-the-art local descriptors. As a result, the proposed approach is attractive for real world shape retrieval applications. The experiments on the widely used MPEG-7 and TARI-1000 data sets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in comparison with existing methods.

Previous research has revealed that the insula, pallidum, thalamus, hippocampus, middle frontal gyrus, and supplementary motor area are activated during odor memory and that the performance of olfactory working memory is affected by the verbalization of odors. However, the neural mechanisms underlying olfactory working memory and the role of verbalization in olfactory working memory are not fully understood. Twenty-nine participants were enrolled in a study to complete olfactory and visual n-back tasks using high- and low-verbalizability stimuli while undergoing fMRI imaging.

An increasing number of treatment guidelines recommend rapid initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) after the diagnosis of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. However, data on the association between rapid ART initiation and alterations in brain structure and function remain limited in people with HIV (PWH). A cross-sectional analysis was conducted on HIV-positive men who have sex with men (MSM) undergoing ART.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common brain-gut disorder often accompanied by depressive symptoms, with atrophy and hyperactivity of the anterior cingulate gyrus (ACC) being key drivers of both IBS and its psychiatric comorbidities. This study aimed to investigate the functional connectivity (FC) patterns of pregenual ACC (pgACC) and anterior midcingulate cortex (aMCC) in IBS patients with depressive symptoms (DEP-IBS). A whole-brain FC analysis was conducted using pgACC and aMCC as regions of interest in three groups: 28 DEP-IBS patients, 21 IBS patients without depressive symptoms (nDEP-IBS), and 36 matched healthy controls (HCs).

Anomaly detection is critical in safety-sensitive fields, but faces challenges from scarce abnormal data and costly expert labeling. Time series anomaly detection is relatively challenging due to its reliance on sequential data, which imposes high computational and memory costs. In particular, it is often composed of real-time collected data that tends to be noisy, making preprocessing an essential step.

This study investigates the movements of particles in an accelerated toroidal flow channel filled with water, with specific applications for a particle imaging velocimetry gyroscope (PIVG). We used computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to simulate particle behavior under different angular accelerations. These angular accelerations were 4 rad/s, 6 rad/s, and 8 rad/s for particles densities of 1100 kg/m, 1050 kg/m, and 980 kg/m.
