The synthetic carboxylic cation exchanger resin Amberlite IRC-50 was charged with histamine by suspension in histamine-containing solution with admixture of [14C]histamine. Mast cell granules were isolated from mast cells suspended in isotonic sucrose. The release of histamine induced from the two materials by superfusion with isotonic NaCl and KCL solutions showed identical kinetics, in accordance with the view that the release of histamine is due to a cation exchange: Na+ (K+) in equilibrium Hi+ at carboxyl groups in the granule heparin-protein complex.

This study analyzed dipeptidyl peptidase-IV (DPP-IV) inhibitory peptides from Tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum) protein hydrolysates, known for managing chronic diseases. Simulated gastrointestinal digestion enhanced the inhibitory activity of DPP-IV. Using anion-exchange resin DEAE-52, reverse high-performance liquid chromatography, and LC-MS/MS, eight novel peptides were identified.

Management of heterogeneous construction, renovation, and demolition (CRD) wood residues in Québec brings into light, a widespread topic under discussion related to their current disposal methods in landfills, that may lead to environmental concerns. With rising forfeitures from a legal standpoint, alternative treatment methods for CRD wood wastes are being explored. Thermochemical biomass conversion techniques can be employed to depolymerize low-quality end-of-life CRD wood and valorize it to bio-based products.

Pichia pastoris is a popular yeast host for high-level heterologous expression of proteins on an industrial scale owing to its reliable expression, robust growth, high fermentation density, and easy genetic manipulation and cultivation at a relatively low cost. Of particular interest is its high secretion efficiency for small proteins including insulin, human serum albumin, vaccines, enzymes, and llama-derived heavy-chain only antibodies (nanobodies) for pharmaceutical and research applications. However, a recurring challenge in using P.

Supramolecular oleogels, in which low-molecular weight oleogelators self-assemble into various nanostructures through non-covalent interactions, have witnessed increasing research activity in various fields of science, including food, cosmetics or remediation of marine oil spills. Herein, we report a simple scalable and environmentally friendly carbohydrate-based oleogelator, namely, the sodium salt of ,'-dimethyl β- glucosyl barbiturate (GlcBMe) that self-assembles through sonication to induce the gelation of polar organic solvent and later of non-polar vegetable oils by cationic exchange with quaternary ammonium surfactants. Water-soluble GlcBMe was capable of forming self-assembled fibrillar network bridging insoluble particles in the oil by sonication in the presence of a small amount of water.

Introduction: Extracts from the rhizome of the traditional Chinese medicinal plant (CY) mediate a number of biologic effects that are associated with its content of isoquinoline alkaloids. CY alkaloids have shown analgesic, cardioprotective, and anti-addictive effects in animal models of disease. Since CY alkaloids are available to consumers as dietary supplements we analyzed the content of alkaloids in 14 products including open powders, capsules, and liquid formulations, capturing a majority of the products available online in the US.
