Objective: To study the relationship of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25-(OH)D3] level with obesity and inflammatory cytokines in children, and to provide a basis for clinical evaluation of the relationship between vitamin D nutritional status and obesity.

Methods: Seventy-eight children with obesity who visited the hospital between February and June 2012 were selected as subjects. According to baseline data, such as age and sex, 105 children who underwent physical examination in the same period were selected as controls. Fasting venous blood samples were taken to measure serum levels of 25-(OH)D3, interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-8 (IL-8), interferon-γ (IFN-γ), and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α).

Results: Serum 25-(OH)D3 levels were significantly lower in the obesity group than in the control group (P<0.01). Serum 25-(OH)D3 levels were negatively correlated with BMI (r=-0.462, P<0.01). Patients were further divided, according to their serum 25-(OH)D levels, into vitamin D sufficiency, vitamin D insufficiency, vitamin D deficiency and severe vitamin D deficiency subgroups. There were significant differences in serum IFN-γ levels among the subgroups (P<0.05). There were no significant differences in serum IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-α levels between the subgroups, however (P>0.05).

Conclusions: Obese children have lower serum 25-(OH)D3 levels than normal children. Serum 25-(OH)D3 level is negatively correlated with BMI, but has little correlation with inflammatory cytokines levels.

Background & Aims: The impact of vitamin D deficiency (VDD) on cognition remains controversial. Evidences suggest that variability based on apolipoprotein E (APOE) ε4 status and gender, given APOE ε4's influence on vitamin D metabolism and women's heightened vitamin D sensitivity. We investigated the interplay between APOE ε4, gender, and VDD in cognitive decline among older adults.

Objectives: To study the significance of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25-(OH)D] level in the clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of children with immunoglobulin A vasculitis nephritis (IgAVN).

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of children with IgAVN who underwent renal biopsy at Suzhou Hospital Affiliated to Anhui Medical University and Jinling Hospital of the Medical School of Nanjing University from June 2015 to June 2020. Based on serum 25-(OH)D level, the patients were divided into a normal group and a lower group.

Our aim was to determine the effects of P intake on P balance, serum parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels and bone resorption during the final 4 weeks prepartum and the first 8 weeks of lactation. Sixty pregnant multiparous Holstein Friesian dairy cows were assigned to a randomized block design with repeated measurements and dietary treatments arranged according to a 2 × 2 factorial design. The experimental diets contained 3.

Association between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations and urinary vitamin D metabolite concentrations measured by the NLucVDR assay.

It is well known that vitamin D is essential for human health; however, many people suffer from vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency worldwide, including in Japan. Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) concentrations are typically measured to evaluate vitamin D status. In a previous study, we demonstrated that the concentrations of vitamin D metabolites in urine, measured using the NLucVDR assay system composed of a split-type nanoluciferase and the ligand-binding domain (LBD) of the human vitamin D receptor, correlated with serum 25(OH)D concentrations measured using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) or electrochemiluminescence immunoassays (ECLIAs).

Objective: The study aimed to investigate the causal relationship between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) levels and epilepsy using Mendelian randomization (MR), thereby addressing confounding and reverse causality issues in observational studies.

Methods: We employed a two-sample bidirectional MR design utilizing summary-level data from the IEU OpenGWAS project. Serum 25(OH)D levels were analyzed using the publicly available dataset ebi-a-GCST90000618, which included 496,946 European samples and 68,960,93 SNPs.
