Objective: To observe the effects of neural stem cells (NSC) plus self-assembly isoleucine-lysine-valine-alanine-valine (IKVAV) nanofiber gel transplantation on the promotion of function recovery of spinal cord injury (SCI) in rats.

Methods: A total of 230 SD rats were randomized into gel, NSC, NSC plus self-assembly IKVAV nanofiber gel transplantation, normal saline and sham-operation groups. Function repair was evaluated by bundle branch block (BBB) score, immunofluorescence and Western blot respectively at Day 1, 3, 5, 7, 14, 28, 56 and 92 post-operation.

Results: There were statistically significant differences among bundle branch block (BBB) scores of different treatment groups (P < 0.01). Moreover, statistical significance existed between each treatment group and combined transplantation group (P = 0.000). The expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein in combined transplantation group (rats with spinal injury) was lower than that in other treatment groups (except for sham operation) and the expression of NF-200 in this group was higher than that in other treatment groups (except for sham operation). Significant differences existed in the expressions of brain-derived neurotrophic factor and nerve growth factor between combined transplantation and other treatment groups (P < 0.01).

Conclusion: Transplantation with IKVAV nanofiber gel, NSC and NSC plus self-assembly IKVAV nanofiber gel may promote the repair of SCI in rats. But the method of NSC plus self-assembly IKVAV nanofiber gel is more effective.

This study evaluated the properties of lentil protein, pea protein, quinoa protein, and soy protein as natural nanoparticle stabilizers and their interactions with pectin and chitin nanofiber in preparing high internal phase Pickering emulsions (HIPPEs). The globular plant proteins interact with polysaccharides through hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions, transforming the structure into complex morphologies, including fibrous and elliptical shapes. These complex nanoparticles exhibited enhanced thermal decomposition stability, and the HIPPEs constructed by them demonstrated significantly improved apparent viscosity and elastic modulus, with a yield stress of 931.

The traditional foams can only block heat loss, and cannot effectively store and release heat energy on demand to extend the insulation time. In this work, the paraffin-rich monolayer microcapsules were prepared using negatively charged phosphorylated cellulose nanofibers (CNF) as the emulsifier of Pickering emulsion. The positive chitosan was assembled on the surface of the monolayer microcapsules through an electrostatic layer-by-layer self-assembly method to prepare the bilayer microcapsules.

Degradable and cost-effective cellulose fiber-based materials are ideal substitutes for traditional plastics. However, organic additives used to enhance water and oil resistance often contain toxic substances that may migrate into food, posing health risks. In this study, inspired by tree structures, lignin-containing cellulose nanofibers (LCNFs) are used to form a "crown-roots" structure to enhance the water, oil, and gas resistance, as well as mechanical performance of composites.

Cysteine derivatives having disulfide bonds in their side chains can be used as redox-responsive organogelators. The disulfide bond can be cleaved in the presence of certain reducing agents like thiol derivatives such as glutathione (GSH), which is a tripeptide that consists of cysteine, glutamic acid, and glycine. Studies show that cells of certain cancers have higher levels of glutathione due to increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Department of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, Faculty of Advanced Technologies in Medicine, Iran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran.

Although tissue engineering science has made great progress, wound healing has remained a significant clinical challenge, especially in cases of severe injuries requiring advanced treatment strategies. This study aimed to develop patient-friendly in situ gelling nanofibers composed of oxidized carboxymethyl cellulose (OCMC) and gelatin for wound healing applications. A two-axial electrospinning technique was employed to fabricate OCMC/PVA-Gelatin hybrid nanofibers.
