With the global population surpassing 8 billion, waste production has skyrocketed, leading to increased pollution that adversely affects both terrestrial and marine ecosystems. Public littering, a significant contributor to this pollution, poses severe threats to marine life due to plastic debris, which can inflict substantial ecological harm. Additionally, this pollution jeopardizes human health through contaminated food and water sources.

Effect of a Training System Utilizing 3D-Printed Patient-Specific Vascular Models on Endovascular Catheterization Performance.

J Vasc Interv Radiol

January 2025

Department of Diagnostic Imaging, Faculty of Medicine, Hokkaido University, N-15, W-7, Kita-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido 060-8638, Japan; Global Center for Biomedical Science and Engineering, Faculty of Medicine, Hokkaido University, N-14, W-5, Kita-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido 060-8648, Japan.

This study aimed to examine the effect of simulation training using a three-dimensional (3D)-printed patient-specific vascular model on the advanced vascular catheterization skills of experienced interventional radiologists (IRs). Two specific anatomic types of 3D-printed patient-specific models from two patients with challenging celiac axis arterial anatomy were constructed. The Global Rating Scale of Endovascular Performance (GRS-EP) was used to evaluate vascular insertion skills.

Exploring the Efficacy and Safety of Vagus Nerve Stimulation for the Treatment of Epilepsy in Patients With Sturge-Weber Syndrome: A Pilot Study.

Pediatr Neurol

January 2025

Department of Neurosurgery, Sanbo Brain Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China; Beijing Key Laboratory of Epilepsy, Beijing, China; Center of Epilepsy, Beijing Institute of Brain Disorders, Collaborative Innovation Center for Brain Disorders, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China. Electronic address:

Background: Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) is a rare congenital neurocutaneous disorder, often complicated by epilepsy. Approximately 50% of patients with SWS with epilepsy develop drug-resistant seizures, leaving limited treatment options. Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is a known therapy for refractory epilepsy, modulating neural activity to reduce seizures.

Teletherapy via videoconferencing has become common practice but has unique challenges. We aimed to develop and validate the first performance-based observer-rated measure of teletherapy skills: The Teletherapy Facilitative Interpersonal Skills Performance Task (Tele-FIS). We developed a set of 12 Tele-FIS video stimulus clips as simulations of four research-informed common therapeutic challenges in teletherapy: technology, distraction, boundaries and privacy, and emotional disconnection.

Background: Efficient emergency patient transport systems, which are crucial for delivering timely medical care to individuals in critical situations, face certain challenges. To address this, CONNECT-AI (CONnected Network for EMS Comprehensive Technical-Support using Artificial Intelligence), a novel digital platform, was introduced. This artificial intelligence (AI)-based network provides comprehensive technical support for the real-time sharing of medical information at the prehospital stage.
