Coating materials involving nature-inspired compounds or renewable sources have recently attracted vast attention. This article presents the synthesis of modified rapeseed oil (MRO) as a precursor possessing high biobased carbon content suitable for cured thermosets formation. Two reactive diluents based on renewable sources, methacrylated methyl 3-hydroxybutyrate (M3HBMMA) and ethyl 3-hydroxybutyrate (E3HBMMA), were successfully synthesized.

In this contribution, we tackle the replacement of the Hg-based catalyst and fossil-derived isocyanate precursors toward the formulation of a more sustainable polyurethane thermosetting resins (PUs), emulating the performance of a fully fossil-based one employed in industrial encapsulation of optoelectronics. A mixed Bi-Zn catalyst and a 71% bio-based isocyanate are exploited at this aim through multivariate chemometric approaches, namely Design of Experiment (DoE). DoE allows us to investigate the effect of different formulation factors on selected parameters, such as the film flexibility and transparency or the gel time.

A bio-based benzoxazine monomer, diphenolic methyl ester hexafluoro diamino benzoxazine (DPME-HFBz), was successfully synthesized from diphenolic acid (DPA), and the chemical structure was successfully verified. The curing kinetics were studied via non-isothermal differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The activation energies of DPME-HFBz were calculated by Kissinger and Ozawa methods to be 136.

Preparation of high-performance thermosetting resins via bio-based resources is important for the development of a sustainable world. In this work, we proposed the introduction of cyanide structure groups into the molecular structure of epoxy resins to give them excellent heat resistance. A eugenol-based epoxy-phthalonitrile (EEPN) resin was synthesized by a two-step process using the bio-based renewable resource of eugenol, and a series of EEPN/Epoxide resin (E51) blend resins with different EEPN contents were prepared.

Wood modification has been explored in various ways to enhance dimensional stability and reduce flammability, with a focus on environmentally friendly treatments to meet market demands. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of new, potential fire-retardant materials. Specifically, the study examined the combination of tripotassium citrate (TPC), a water-soluble and bio-based fire retardant, with sorbitol and citric acid (SorCA), an eco-friendly thermosetting resin previously studied.
