In the presence or absence of water, a Schiff-base compound, 4-amino-3-(2-(2-hydroxybenzylidene)hydrazinyl)-1H-1,2,4-triazole-5(4H)-thione (HATT), forms different crystalline states (HATT, HATT·2H2O, and a lamellar structure, m-HATT·nH2O), which show different luminescence emission properties. Herein, we investigate the emission of HATT and the role of water molecules. A water molecule, which acts as both a hydrogen-bond acceptor and -donor, enlarges the distance between adjacent HATT molecules and hinders non-radiative decay pathways.

Two Co(II) mixed-ligand metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) based on 2-methylimidazole and trimesate were synthesised at room temperature. The structure and properties of the two MOFs, named material Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron-1 and -2 (mDESY-1 and mDESY-2), were verified by single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), SQUID magnetic susceptibility and N adsorption. The structural analysis indicates that mDESY-1 is a 3D ionic framework with 2-methyl-1-imidazol-3-ium counterions residing in its pores, while mDESY-2 is a 2D neutral framework isostructural to ITH-1, with water as a co-crystallising solvent.

Unlabelled: Global aquaculture production faces the challenge of biologically cycling nitrogenous waste. Biofloc technology (BFT) systems offer the potential to reduce water consumption and eliminate waste products by using beneficial microorganisms to convert waste into usable nutrients or non-toxic molecules. Unlike flow-through systems (FTS), which depend on continuous water exchange and result in higher operational costs as well as limited microbiome stability, BFT operates without the need for constant water exchange.

The self-assembly of macromolecular segments promotes the fabrication of polymer microspheres with multiple morphologies. Inspired by the xanthium shells, A dual-driven self-assembly method have defined that enables the construction of multi-dimensional morphologies on the microsphere surface at emulsion-confined interfaces. The two driving forces are derived from the phase separation caused by the immiscibility of macromolecular segments and the different interactions between chain segments of different hydrophilicity and water molecules.

Water is a fundamental component of life, playing a critical role in regulating metabolic processes and facilitating the dissolution and transport of essential molecules. However, emerging contaminants, such as pharmaceuticals, pose significant challenges to water quality and safety. Nanomaterial-based technologies emerge as a promising solution for removing those contaminants from water.

Sodium borohydride dihydrate (NaBH·2HO) forms through dihydrogen bonding between the hydridic hydrogen of the BH ion and the protonic hydrogen of the water molecule. High-pressure structural changes in NaBH·2HO, observed up to 11 GPa through X-ray diffraction and Raman scattering spectroscopy, were analyzed to assess the influence of dihydrogen bonds on its crystal structure. At approximately 4.
