This study aims to investigate the impacts of ethyl lactate (EL) based Fenton treatment on soil quality for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)-contaminated soils. Accumulation of oxygenated-polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (oxy-PAHs) was observed, but quantitative measurement on the most abundant compound 9,10-anthraquinone (ATQ) showed lower accumulation of the compound than that reported for ethanol (ET) based Fenton treatment. In general, as compared to conventional water (CW) based Fenton treatment, the EL based Fenton treatment exerted either a lower or higher negative impact on soil physicochemical properties depending on the property type and shared the main disadvantage of reduced soil pH. For revegetation, EL based Fenton treatment was most appropriately adopted for soil with native pH >/~ 6.2 in order to obtain a final soil pH >/~ 4.9 subject to the soil buffering capacity.

The accelerated growth of the economy and advancements in medical technology have led to the discharge of a diverse range of organic pollutants into water sources. Recent investigations into water treatment have demonstrated the potential for integrating photocatalysis with techniques such as photocatalytic persulfate activation and the Photo-Fenton process for more efficient wastewater management. Iron-based photocatalysts responsive to visible light offer several advantages, including non-toxicity, safety, affordability, and excellent chemical and optical properties.

Background: The risk of onwards HIV transmission is strongly influenced by the interval between HIV infection and its diagnosis. The SELPHI trial examined whether this interval could be reduced by offering free HIV self-testing kits to men-who-have-sex with-men (MSM).
Setting: Internet-based RCT of MSM aged ≥16 years, resident in England/Wales, recruited via sexual and social networking sites.

Hybrid polyionic complexes (HPICs) are colloidal structures with a charged core rich in metal ions and a neutral hydrophilic corona. Their properties, whether as reservoirs or catalysts, depend on the accessibility and environment of the metal ions. This study demonstrates that modifying the coordination sphere of these ions can tune the properties of HPICs by altering the composition of the complexing block or varying formulation conditions.

As a recently discovered form of regulated cell death, ferroptosis has attracted much attention in the field cancer therapy. However, achieving considerably enhanced efficacy is often restricted by the overexpression of endogenous glutathione (GSH) in tumor microenvironment (TME). In this work, we report a ferroptosis-inducing strategy of GSH depletion and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation based on a biodegradable copper-doped calcium phosphate (CaP) with L-buthionine sulfoximine (BSO) loading (denoted as BSO@CuCaP-LOD, BCCL).

The development of intelligent nanotheranostic technology that integrates diagnostic and therapeutic functions holds great promise for personalized nanomedicine. However, most of the nanotheranostic agents exhibit "always-on" properties and do not involve an amplification step, which may largely limit imaging contrast and restrict therapeutic efficacy. Herein, we construct a novel nanotheranostic platform (Hemin/DHPs/PDA@CuS nanocomposite) by assembling DNA hairpin probes (DHPs) and hemin on the surface of PDA@CuS nanosheets that enables amplified fluorescence imaging and activatable chemodynamic therapy (CDT) of tumors.
