The purpose of this study was to histomorphometrically evaluate the percentage of vital bone after grafting of maxillary sinuses using two different concentrations of recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein/acellular collagen sponge (rhBMP-2/ACS) combined with mineralized cancellous bone allograft (MCBA) and to compare the results to a control sinus grafted with MCBA only. Thirty-six sinuses in 18 patients had two of three of the graft combinations including: (1) control, MCBA only; (2) test one, MCBA + 5.6 mL of rhBMP-2/ACS (containing 8.4 mg of rhBMP-2); or (3) test two, MCBA + 2.8 mL of rhBMP-2/ACS (containing 4.2 mg of rhBMP-2). Histologic cores were taken 6 to 9 month following sinus augmentation. The results showed no statistically significant differences in vital bone between the two test groups compared to the control sinus group treated with MCBA alone. Future studies involving more cases and evaluating survival of implants placed in these augmented sinuses are needed to verify the results of this randomized prospective study.

Background: Adipokines, bioactive peptides secreted by adipose tissue, appear to contribute to breast cancer development and progression. While numerous studies suggest their role in promoting tumor growth, the exact mechanisms of their involvement are not yet completely understood.
Methods: In this project, varying concentrations of recombinant human adipokines (Leptin, Lipocalin-2, PAI-1, and Resistin) were used to study their effects on four selected breast cancer cell lines (EVSA-T, MCF-7, MDA-MB-231, and SK-Br-3).

The SUMO fusion technology has immensely contributed to the soluble production of therapeutics and other recombinant proteins in E. coli. The structure-based functionality of SUMO protease has remained the primary determinant for choosing SUMO as a solubility enhancer tag.

Direct SARS-CoV-2 infection of endothelial cells is challenging to study in vitro. To examine whether endothelial cell culture conditions impact the ability of SARS-CoV-2 to infect cells, we evaluated the effects of commercial cell culture media composition on SARS-CoV-2 Spike-directed viral infection. In African Green Monkey kidney epithelial cells (VeroE6), we found that commercial cell culture media (EGM2) produced inhibitory effects on recombinant vesicular stomatitis virus (rVSV-SARS-CoV-2) growth that is not seen in Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM).

Chicken surfactant protein A1 (cSP-A1) is a soluble C-type lectin found primarily in chicken lungs. Its function and other potential bioactivities are unclear. This study aimed to express, purify, and identify recombinant cSP-A1 (RcSP-A1), investigate its effects on chicken macrophage HD11 cells, and evaluate its ability to regulate the LPS-induced inflammatory response.

Mixing different metal ions at the B site of ABX perovskites offers a promising approach for addressing challenges related to toxicity, stability and performance in optoelectronic applications. One such example is CsPbSnBr which addresses the toxicity issue posed by lead while allowing us to tune optoelectronic properties such as the band gap. In this work, nearly monodisperse CsPbSnBr quantum dots (QDs) were synthesized with variable Pb/Sn compositions, CsPbBr, CsPbSnBr and CsPbSnBr.
