Twenty-four out of 72 sera from patients with acute viral hepatitis were positive for HB Ag. HB Ag positive males were more severely ill than HB Ag positive females. The sera of four patients with active chronic hepatitis were negative for HB Ag. Thirteen sera of HB Ag positive cases were tested for anti-nuclear factor, all with negative results. In all four patients with active chronic hepatitis anti-nuclear factor was positive. There was a high incidence of latex fixation reactivity in the HB Ag positive cases (9 out of 13). Arbovirus antibodies were detected in 16 out of 18 HB Ag positive cases and in 19 out of 27 HB Ag negative cases of acture viral hepatitis. Fifty percent of these HB Ag positive cases had titers suggestive of recent infection as against 33% of the HB Ag negative cases. The arbovirus antibody titers were determined in four out of six HB Ag positive cases that did not give a history of parenteral injections and in everyone of them the titers were suggestive of a recent arbovirus infection.

More micrometastases, more recurrence? The role of qPCR of PSA mRNA in lymph nodes during prostatectomy.

World J Urol

January 2025

Department of Urology, Urooncology, Robot-assisted and Focal Therapy, University Hospital Magdeburg, Otto-von Guericke University Magdeburg, Leipziger Str. 44, 39120, Magdeburg, Germany.

Background And Objectives: Radical prostatectomy is a standard treatment for prostate cancer, yet about 30% of patients experience rising biochemical markers within a decade post-surgery. Pelvic lymph node sampling during prostatectomy assesses potential lymph node metastases, but standard histological assessments, which typically examine only 2-3 tissue sections, often miss occult metastases. This study assesses the effectiveness of qPCR in detecting PSA coding KLK3 mRNA for identifying lymph node metastases post-prostatectomy and explores the correlation between PSA-mRNA and biochemical recurrence.

Purpose: A comprehensive survey was conducted to assess the prevalence of Schistosoma japonicum infection in humans, water buffaloes, and snails in the two endemic municipalities of Talibon and Trinidad in Bohol, Philippines, which are nearing elimination.

Methods And Results: Human stool and blood samples were collected from barangays with snail breeding sites, and results showed higher positivity rates using the rSjTPx-1-ELISA compared to the Kato-Katz technique. Human stool examination for showed a 0.

Background: Xylazine is a α2-adrenergic receptor agonist, used for sedation in veterinary contexts. Although it is increasingly found in overdose deaths across North America, the clinical management of xylazine-involved overdoses has not been extensively studied, especially in community-based harm reduction settings. Here we present a clinical series of xylazine-involved overdose and share the clinical approach and lessons learned by a community overdose response team in Tijuana, Mexico amidst the arrival of xylazine.

Background: The reformulation of commonly consumed foods towards less sugar, fat, and salt is an important public health strategy to improve food choices of consumers and thus address the high prevalence of overweight and obesity. Front-of-pack nutrition labels like the Nutri-Score may drive reformulation and support nutritionally favourable food choices. Breakfast cereals are of special interest in that they tend to be high in sugar and are relatively often targeted at children.
