Natural killer (NK) cells are an essential component of innate immunity that provides a rapid response to detect stressed, infected, or transformed target cells. This system is controlled by a balance of inhibitory and activating signals transmitted by a myriad of receptors and their specific ligands. Inhibitory receptors mainly recognize self-MHC class-I molecules, whereas activating receptors, such as natural cytotoxic receptors, NKG2D, and DNAM-1, interact with self-proteins, normally not expressed on the cell surface of healthy cells, but up-regulated by cellular stress or infections and are frequently expressed on tumor cells. In these circumstances, regulatory controls ensure that specific ligands are induced mainly in diseased cells and not in normal cells. Each ligand seems to exhibit some distinct specializations providing broad "coverage" for numerous stresses associated with various diseases. Deregulated cell proliferation is a hallmark of these abnormal situations, and may serve as a sentinel for the elimination of the targets by NK cells. The purpose of this review is to discuss recent implications of cell-cycle to create a warning control system that relays various danger signals via specific ligands to the NK receptor system.

Electron donor tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) and electron acceptor naphthalene diimide (NDI) derivatives were used to synthesize a 3D Zn-TTF/NDI-MOF. Multiple redox active sites and charge transfer endow the pristine MOF anode with excellent rate behavior and long term cycling performance (with an average specific capacity of 956 mA h g at 1 A g over 600 cycles). This study highlights the great potential of elaborately-designed MOFs for developing efficient anode materials.

The advancement of lanthanide fingerprint sensors characterized by targeted emission responses and low self-fluorescence interference for the detection of biothiols is of considerable importance for the early diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Herein, the lanthanide "personality function tailoring" HOF composite sensor array is designed for the specific discrimination of biothiols (GSH, Cys, and Hcy) based on the activation of various luminescent molecules, such as r-AuNCs/luminol via HOF surface proximity. Lumi-HOF@Ce serves as a versatile platform for catalyzing the oxidation of -phenylenediamine (OPD) to generate yellow fluorescent oligomers, accompanied by the fluorescence attenuation of luminol.

Poor oral health is an independent risk factor for upper-aerodigestive tract cancers, including esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC); thus, good oral health may reduce the risk of ESCC. We previously reported that high expression of Toll-like receptor (TLR) 6, which recognizes peptidoglycan (PGN) from Gram-positive bacteria correlates with a good prognosis after esophagectomy for ESCC. Most beneficial bacteria in the mouth are Gram-positive.

However, they remain difficult to design and are instead typically selected for using extensive screens or directed evolution. Recent developments in protein large language models have enabled fast generation of diverse protein sequences in unexplored regions of protein space predicted to fold into varied structures, bind relevant targets, and catalyze novel reactions.

Introduction: WT1 often presents on the surface of diffuse pleural mesotheliomas (DPMs) and is an ideal therapeutic target. Galinpepimut-S (GPS), a tetravalent, non-human leukocyte antigen-restricted, heteroclitic WT1-specific peptide vaccine was safe and effective in early phase clinical trials and upregulates T-cell suppressive programmed death-ligand 1 in the tumor microenvironment of other malignancies. A randomized phase 2 study of adjuvant GPS in patients with DPM trended toward improved median overall survival.
