Osteomalacia is a relatively common condition, which is frequently underdiagnosed due to lack of clinical suspicion and non-specific symptoms. Osteomalacia can complicate tubulo-interstital nephritis. However, it occurs exceptionally as the first manifestation of Sjögren syndrome with renal involvement. It is a consequence of chronic metabolic acidosis and is associated with distal renal tubular acidosis. We report a 31-year-old woman hospitalised for a 1 year history of muscle weakness and joint and chest wall pains. Skeletal imagery showed Looser's zones in the left femoral neck. Investigations concluded to the diagnosis of primary Sjogren's syndrome.

BACKGROUND This study aimed to analyze the risk factors of central nervous system (CNS) infection caused by reactivation of varicella zoster virus (VZV) and provide reference for the prevention and early diagnosis of VZV-associated CNS infection. MATERIAL AND METHODS A prospective study was conducted on 1030 patients with acute herpes zoster (HZ) admitted to our hospital from January 2021 to June 2023. According to clinical manifestations and auxiliary examinations, they were divided into HZ group of 990 patients and VZV-associated CNS infection group of 40 patients.

Globally, the prevalence of coronary artery disease (CAD) is increasing, accounting for a third of all deaths worldwide including myocardial infarctions (MIs) which represent the most severe clinical manifestation of CAD and are among the most dangerous coronary events. Therefore, this study aims to assess the knowledge of symptoms and risk factors of MIs, as well as attitudes and beliefs regarding MIs and confidence in recognizing CAD symptoms in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. A cross-sectional study was conducted among individuals living in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia between November 2023 and April 2024 to assess their knowledge and beliefs about CAD and MIs.

The cell painting assay is useful for understanding cellular phenotypic changes and drug effects. To identify other aspects of well-known chemicals, we screened 258 compounds with the cell painting assay and focused on a mitochondrial punctate phenotype seen with disulfiram. To elucidate the reason for this punctate phenotype, we looked for clues by examining staining steps and gene knockdown as well as examining protein solubility and comparing cell lines.

This study reports a novel porcupine model exhibiting spontaneous deafness and pigmentation abnormalities reminiscent of human Waardenburg Syndrome Type 2 (WS2: OMIM#193510). Through phenotypic characterization, including coat color, skin, eye morphology, and auditory brainstem response (ABR) assessments, we identified hypopigmentation and complete deafness in mutant porcupines.
