Groundwater sampling from open boreholes in fractured-rock aquifers is particularly challenging because of mixing and dilution of fluid within the borehole from multiple fractures. This note presents an alternative to traditional sampling in open boreholes with packer assemblies. The alternative system called ZONFLO (zonal flow) is based on hydraulic control of borehole flow conditions. Fluid from discrete fractures zones are hydraulically isolated allowing for the collection of representative samples. In rough-faced open boreholes and formations with less competent rock, hydraulic containment may offer an attractive alternative to physical containment with packers. Preliminary test results indicate a discrete zone can be effectively hydraulically isolated from other zones within a borehole for the purpose of groundwater sampling using this new method.

Background: The UN General Assembly recognised the human right to water and sanitation through the sixth SDG in 2010. South Kordofan, a state in southern Sudan, faces WASH challenges due to conflict, geographical factors, and inadequate services, impacting over 600,000 residents. Such conflicts are well known for spreading diseases and disrupting WASH-related practices among displaced individuals.

To investigate the failure mechanism and establish stability control methods for surrounding rock in high geo-stress roadways, this study incorporated the brittle failure characteristics of the surrounding rock mass into a unified strength criterion, developing an elastic-plastic theoretical model to represent rock damage and fracture. Using this model, analytical expressions for the damage rupture radius and stress field distribution are derived, leading to the proposal of a grading control method. The analysis of calculation examples reveals that an increase in stress, damage degree, and the brittleness coefficient of the rock mass results in the expansion of both the plastic damage and damage residual zones.

Background: Routine epidemiological data are essential for monitoring the effectiveness of preventive chemotherapy (PC), optimizing resource allocation, and addressing the evolving needs in the elimination of soil-transmitted helminthiasis (STH). This study assesses the prevalence, intensity, and associated risk factors of STH following five rounds of albendazole-based PC in three implementation units (IUs) in Ondo State, Nigeria.

Methodology: Fresh stool samples were collected from 2,093 children aged 5-14 years across 45 systematically selected schools in three IUs: Ese-Odo, Irele, and Ile-Oluji.

A 68-year-old patient came to the emergency department complaining of headaches and general weakness for the past month. The patient is known to have myeloproliferative disease. Non-contrast computer tomography showed a hyperdense extra-axial collection in bilateral frontoparietal regions, which was presumed to be bilateral subdural hematoma as the initial diagnosis.

Combining the requirements for refined modeling and dynamic update of fault slope geological models in open-pit coal mines, we systematically elaborated on the elements and rules of slope 3D geological modeling and proposed a fine modeling and dynamic updating method based on digital elevation model (DEM) and half-edge boundary representation (B-Rep) data structures. Initially, the stratigraphic division of the study area is conducted based on borehole and section data, combined with the geological evolution history and the level set theory. Applying inverse distance weighting (IDW) for estimation, the geological interface triangular irregular network (TIN) is constructed using the TIN algorithm.
