Purpose Of Review: For pediatric osteomyelitis and septic arthritis, 10-24% of cases occur in the upper extremity (UE). Due to delays in presentation and diagnosis, UE infections are often more complex and severe than infections of the lower extremity (LE). This review evaluates the literature from the past 6 years related to pediatric osteomyelitis and septic arthritis of the UE and provides a guide for professionals managing these conditions in children.

The growing antibiotic resistance of microorganisms causing postoperative infections following orthopedic surgeries underscores the urgent need for localized antiseptic and lavage delivery systems to enhance infection control. This study evaluates the in vitro effectiveness of antiseptic and lavage solutions-including polyhexanide, povidone-iodine, low-concentrated hypochlorite, Ringer's solution, and saline-against , MRSA, , , , and . Using microplate models (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration, Minimum Biofilm Eradication Concentration, and Biofilm-Oriented Antiseptic Test assays), flow-based models (Bioflux system), and surfaces relevant to orthopedic implants (e.

Fracture-related infections (FRIs) are a challenging complication in orthopaedics. Standard of care management for FRIs typically involves prolonged antibiotic therapies, irrigation and debridement (I&D) of the fracture site, and retention of fracture-fixation implants with or without exchange. Unfortunately, this treatment regimen is associated with treatment failure rates of up to 38 %, such that improved preventive and therapeutic interventions are needed.

BACKGROUND Septic arthritis of the shoulder is a rare and challenging condition to treat. Typically, arthroscopic debridement is the common approach. Specifically, septic arthritis of the shoulder caused by methicillin-resistant bacteria is extremely difficult to cure due to persistent infection and limited antibiotic options.

Background: Antibiotic-resistant bacteria, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), pose a significant threat to public health. Existing detection methods, like cultivation-based techniques, demand significant time and labor, while molecular diagnostic techniques, such as PCR, necessitate sophisticated instrumentation and skilled personnel. Although previous multiplex loop-mediated isothermal amplification assays based on fluorescent dyes (mfLAMP) offer simplicity and cost-effectiveness, they are prone to false-positive results.
