Background: Mast cell activation is critical for the development of allergic diseases. Ligation of sialic acid-binding immunoglobin-like lectins (Siglecs), such as Siglec-6, -7, and -8 as well as CD33, have been shown to inhibit mast cell activation. Recent studies showed that human mast cells express Siglec-9, an inhibitory receptor also expressed by neutrophils, monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells.

Background: MNS hybrid GP(B-A-B) glycophorins are more commonly found in Southeast Asians and alloantibodies to antigens they carry are clinically significant. Detection of hybrid glycophorins by serologic techniques is limited due to lack of commercial reagents. In this study, a genotyping method for GP(B-A-B) hybrid glycophorins based on high-resolution melting (HRM) analysis was applied for genotyping analysis in the Chinese Southern Han population.

Background And Objectives: MNS hybrid glycophorins are identified by characteristic antigen profiles. One of these is the Mur antigen, which is expressed on red cell hybrid glycophorins of several phenotypes of the 'Miltenberger' series found predominantly in East Asian population. The aim of this study was to investigate the distribution of Mur-positive hybrid glycophorins and clarify the genetic basis in the donors from southern China.

Acute, inflammatory conditions associated with dysregulated complement activation are characterized by significant increases in blood concentration of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and ATP. The mechanisms by which these molecules arise are not fully understood. In this study, using luminometric- and fluorescence-based methods, we show that ligation of glycophorin A (GPA) on human red blood cells (RBCs) results in a 2.

Erythropoietin is a signaling glycoprotein that controls the fundamental process of erythropoiesis, orchestrating the production and maintenance of red blood cells. As administrated clinically, erythropoietin has a polypeptide backbone with complex dishomogeneity in its carbohydrate domains. Here we describe the total synthesis of homogeneous erythropoietin with consensus carbohydrate domains incorporated at all of the native glycosylation sites.
