Studies examining friendships among Mexican-American adolescents have largely focused on their potentially negative influence. The current study examined the extent to which deviant and achievement-oriented friend affiliations are associated with Mexican-American adolescents' school adjustment and also tested whether support from friends and parents moderates these associations. High school students (N = 412; 49 % male) completed questionnaires and daily diaries; primary caregivers also completed a questionnaire. Although results revealed few direct associations between friend affiliations and school adjustment, several moderations emerged. In general, the influence of friends' affiliation was strongest when support from friends was high and parental support was low. The findings suggest that only examining links between friend affiliations and school outcomes does not fully capture how friends promote or hinder school adjustment.

This study provides an in-depth qualitative exploration of Aboriginal peoples' experiences with seeking help for gambling-related issues in the Northern Territory (NT), Australia. Through semi-structured interviews with 29 participants, including regular and occasional gamblers as well as those affected by others' gambling, the research highlights key barriers to seeking formal help. These barriers included the normalisation of gambling within Aboriginal communities, denial of gambling problems, feelings of shame, privacy concerns, and a lack of trust in mainstream services.

Sepsis-induced myocardial dysfunction (SIMD) involves reversible myocardial dysfunction. The use of inotropes can restore adequate cardiac output and tissue perfusion, but conventional inotropes, such as dobutamine and adrenaline, have limited efficacy in such situations. Levosimendan is a novel inotrope that acts in a catecholamine-independent manner.

The Role of ROS and Its Sources in Tumorigenesis: Friend or Foe?

Ponicidin has demonstrated effectiveness against HCC by promoting mitochondria apoptosis and generating ROS through the stabilization of the Keap1-PGAM5 complex. However, ROS can exhibit both tumor-promoting and tumor-suppressing activities in cancers, and exhibit different effects depending on its source-mtROS vs non-mtROS. Additionally, since ROS from different sources possesses distinct functions, mitochondria-targeted antioxidants, and non-targeted antioxidants may have entirely different effects on cancer progression.

Background: Disclosure of oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) use for HIV prevention may improve adherence to PrEP; however, disclosure can be challenging and may result in stigma. Here, we describe disclosure of PrEP use among young women enrolled in a contraceptive study.

Methods: In this qualitative study, we conducted semi-structured, in-depth, face-to-face interviews with 13 women aged 18-25 years who initiated oral PrEP for HIV prevention during the Evidence for Contraceptive Options and HIV Outcomes (ECHO) Trial.
