Background: Nonenveloped viruses, such as hepatitis A virus (HAV) and parvovirus B19 (B19V), are not inactivated by detergents and solvents commonly used to manufacture plasma derivatives. Cases of transfusion-transmitted HAV and B19V have already been described in several countries. This study aimed to determine the incidence of HAV and B19V asymptomatic infections in blood donors from Rio de Janeiro and evaluate the residual risk of transmission to blood derivative recipients.

Strongyloides stercoralis infections, human T-lymphotropic virus (HTLV) infections, and Chagas diseases occur throughout many regions of Central and South America, including Peru. This study aimed to evaluate the seroprevalence of S. stercoralis, HTLV, and Chagas disease in Iquitos (Peruvian Amazon) and the associated epidemiological conditions for S.

Dual infection with a virus that targets the immune system, such as HTLV-1 (human T-cell lymphotropic virus class 1), combined with another virus that affects the respiratory system, such as SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2), can cause serious disease and even death. Given the significance of better comprehending the dual viral infections' dynamics, researchers have been drawn to mathematical analyses of such models. This work investigates the stability of a discrete HTLV-1/SARS-CoV-2 dual infection model.

Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATL), a rare and unique proliferative tumor of T lymphocytes, is associated with human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) infection. Due to its diverse clinical features, multidrug resistance of malignant cells, frequent opportunistic infection, and poor prognosis, ATL remains a clinical challenge. A unified understanding of ATL is currently lacking, and its diagnosis and treatment are not standardized in China due to the small number of cases.
