Efficient new technology has made it straightforward for behavioral scientists to collect anywhere from several dozen to several thousand dense, repeated measurements on one or more time-varying variables. These intensive longitudinal data (ILD) are ideal for examining complex change over time but present new challenges that illustrate the need for more advanced analytic methods. For example, in ILD the temporal spacing of observations may be irregular, and individuals may be sampled at different times. Also, it is important to assess both how the outcome changes over time and the variation between participants' time-varying processes to make inferences about a particular intervention's effectiveness within the population of interest. The methods presented in this article integrate 2 innovative ILD analytic techniques: functional data analysis and dynamical systems modeling. An empirical application is presented using data from a smoking cessation clinical trial. Study participants provided 42 daily assessments of pre-quit and post-quit withdrawal symptoms. Regression splines were used to approximate smooth functions of craving and negative affect and to estimate the variables' derivatives for each participant. We then modeled the dynamics of nicotine craving using standard input-output dynamical systems models. These models provide a more detailed characterization of the post-quit craving process than do traditional longitudinal models, including information regarding the type, magnitude, and speed of the response to an input. The results, in conjunction with standard engineering control theory techniques, could potentially be used by tobacco researchers to develop a more effective smoking intervention.

When pollen lands on a receptive stigma, it germinates and extends a tube inside the transmitting tissue of the pistil to deliver the sperm cells for double fertilization. The growth of the pollen tube triggers significant alterations in its gene expression. The extent to which these changes occur in the vegetative cell or extend to the sperm cells transported by the tube is unclear but important to determine since sperm cells are believed to acquire a competency for fertilization during pollen-pistil interactions.

Surgery is the standard primary treatment for patients with DTC, followed by radioactive iodine therapy (RAIT) when indicated. After the main treatment, patients receive thyroid hormone therapy in a variety of regimens, either as a replacement therapy or as a therapy intended to suppress secretion of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH).

Remote monitoring of SMBG in Russia appeared relatively recently and needs to be evaluated for effectiveness.
Aim: To evaluate the effect of remote monitoring of SMBG on carbohydrate metabolism and quality of life in patients with type 1 DM in order to form new therapeutic approaches.
Aim: To study the role of iodine, selenium and zinc in the pathogenesis of iodine deficiency and autoimmune thyroid diseases and scientifically substantiate the choice of security biomarkers and analytical methods for determination.
Materials And Methods: Serum iodine (I), selenium (Se), and zinc (Zn) concentrations were measured using inductively coupled plasma ionization tandem mass spectrometry (Agilent 8900 ICP-MS Triple Quad); by chemiluminescent immunoassay on an automatic analyzer Architect i2000 - TSH and AT-TPO in blood serum; by enzyme immunoassay - ZnT8A; biochemical method - ALP, SOD1 in 1150 people aged from 18 to 65 years (the average age of the subjects was 40±5 years). Ultrasound of the thyroid gland was performed in the supine position using a portable ultrasound machine LOGIQe with a multifrequency linear sensor 10-15 MHz; during the study, the volume of the thyroid gland, the presence of nodules and their characteristics according to the TIRADS classification, the structure of the thyroid gland and its echogenicity were assessed.

Effective research and clinical application in audiology and hearing loss (HL) require the integration of diverse data, yet the absence of a dedicated database impedes understanding and insight extraction in HL. To address this, the Genetic Deafness Commons (GDC) is developed by consolidating extensive genetic and genomic data from 51 public databases and the Chinese Deafness Genetics Consortium. This repository comprises 5 983 613 variants across 201 HL genes, revealing the genetic landscape of HL and identifying six novel mutational hotspots within the DNA-binding domains of transcription factors.
