Objective: To compare the content of six lignans of different parts of Schisandra chinensis.

Method: Agilent TC-C18 (4.6 mm x 250 mm, 5 microm) was used with acetonitrile-water gradient system as mobile phase. Wave length was 250 nm. The flow rate was 1 mL x min(-1). Column temperature was 30 degrees C.

Result: The total lignans content of wild Schisandra chinensis was higher than that of the cultivated varieties. The total lignans content of different parts varied significantly, wherein the root > main branch > side branches > leaf.

Conclusion: This method is stable, reliable, can be used for the quality evaluation of different parts of Schisandra.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the protective effects of Schisandra chinensis stem extract (SCE) against spermatogenic disorders caused by chemotherapy drug cisplatin, as prior research has focused more on medicinal parts of the plant.
  • Network pharmacology was utilized to predict potential targets and mechanisms, with both in vivo (mice) and in vitro (cell culture) experiments demonstrating SCE's effectiveness in mitigating the adverse effects of cisplatin.
  • The main active component, Schisandrol B, appears to exert its protective effects through various signaling pathways, including Nrf2/HO-1, PI3K/Akt, and MAPK, influencing key proteins related to spermatogenesis.

The is an important edible plant, and previous phytochemical research focused on the fruit (SF) due to its long history as traditional Chinese medicine. fruit was used as an astringent tonic to astringe the lungs and the kidneys, replenish energy, promote the production of body fluids, tonify the kidney, and induce sedation. The components of , such as its stems (SS), leaves (SL), and roots (SR), have drawn little attention regarding their metabolites and bioactivities.
