Extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) are β-lactamase enzymes produced by Gram-negative bacterial pathogens that harbor the ESBL genes. In addition, most ESBL genes are plasmid-mediated and usually encode a broader spectrum of antimicrobial resistance, especially to penicillins, first-generation, second-generation, and third-generation cephalosporins, as well as monobactam, such as aztreonam. has become an opportunistic pathogen, especially in poultry, and has been implicated in zoonotic diseases that can be transmitted to humans, resulting in public health problems.

Carriage of CTX-M-type extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) is rare in . During routine surveillance of an endemic ST-621 at a large hospital, isolate MRSN 100690 carrying was cultured from a patient (P2). This was the first detection of this ESBL in the endemic ST-621 lineage.

The widespread prevalence of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli limits treatment options and is a worldwide problem. This study aimed to investigate the antimicrobial susceptibility and ESBL types of 204 strains of CTX-M-type ESBLsproducing E. coli isolated from 2011 to 2017 in the Chubu region of Japan and to identify factors correlated with susceptibility.

Background: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global threat to infectious disease control, particularly among recently hospitalized children. We sought to determine the prevalence and mitigating factors of resistance in enteric among children discharged from health facilities in western Kenya.
Methods: Between June 2016 and November 2019, children aged 1 to 59 months were enrolled at the point of discharge from the hospital.
