Aligning quality outcomes with cost effectiveness is the cornerstone of the direction of health care in the United States. Implementing and supporting an evidence-based practice (EBP) environment requires resources. Because research is a foundational element of the EBP process, resources allocated for nursing research are essential. As part of operational costs, PhD nurse researchers can affirmatively impact an organization by improving quality of care and patient outcomes. Incorporation of a PhD nurse researcher can favorably alter the organization in a pay-for-performance environment.

Background: Registered nurses are ethically and professionally obligated to foster sustainable and respectful workplaces. However, when transitioning to academia, many nurses encounter unexpected challenges, including hierarchical and individualistic environments that contrast with the collaborative ethos of clinical practice.
Method: This qualitative study explored the experiences of 11 registered nurses from six Australian universities as they transitioned into academic roles.

Nursing students exposed to bullying behaviors are at risk for making medication errors. For a quasi-experimental study, 15 prelicensure nursing students at a Midwestern university were exposed to simulated bullying behaviors or common distractions while administering medications in a laboratory setting. Data were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis tests.

Background: Race, age, and sex diversity are increasing in the medical and nursing workforce, raising questions regarding how well healthcare professionals are collaborating. RC is a validated model for coordinating interdependent work among healthcare professionals.
