A new ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid- (EDTA-) mediated hydrothermal route to prepare chrysanthemum-shaped samarium orthovanadate (SmVO₄) nanocrystals with decavanadate (K₆V₁₀O₂₈·9H₂O) as vanadium source has been developed. The present hydrothermal approach is simple and reproducible and employs a relatively mild reaction temperature. The EDTA, pH value, and temperature of the reaction systems play important roles in determining the morphologies and growth process of the SmVO₄ products. The products have been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), photoluminescence spectra (PL), and UV-Vis spectroscopy.

This study presents the first-ever synthesis of samarium-doped indium vanadate nanosheets (IVONSs:Sm) via microemulsion-mediated solvothermal method. The nanosheets were subsequently utilized as a nano-matrix in laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (LDI-MS). It was discovered that the as-synthesized IVONSs:Sm possessed the following advantages: improved mass spectrometry signal, minimal matrix-related background, and exceptional stability in negative-ion mode.

Cube-shaped samarium orthovanadate (SmVO) nanoparticles were interconnected with a graphene oxide sheet (GOS) using a simple and eco-friendly method to generate a SmVO@GOS nanocomposite. SmVO was characterized using various spectroscopic and microscopic techniques, which confirmed the wrapping of GOS around the SmVO nanoparticles. SmVO@GOS was then used to modify a glassy carbon electrode (GCE), which was evaluated for its electrochemical performance toward the assay of sulfasalazine (SSZ), an antibiotic drug.

The use of tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) for veterinary, human therapy, and agriculture has risen in the past few decades, making it to become one of the most exploited antibiotics. However, TCH residue in the environment is causing issues related to the evolution of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. To address such a problem, photodegradation offers a potential solution to decompose these pollutants in wastewater and thereby mitigates negative environmental impacts.

Herein, a dual Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst consisting of CoO, CuBiO, and SmVO for carbamazepine (CBZ) degradation was synthesised and characterised by XRD, FTIR, UV-Vis DRS, XPS, FE-SEM, and TEM. The reduction in electron-hole recombination was evaluated by PL, LSV, and EIS analysis. The heterojunction, CoO/CuBiO/SmVO (CCBSV) showed enhanced photocatalytic activity of 76.
