A pyrene-thiophene conjugate has been used for the efficient detection of intracellular irons through the generation of bright green luminescence. Amongst three different probes being reported, it is observed that the efficiency for the naked eye green luminescent detection of iron increases on moving from naphthalene to anthracene to pyrene. The developed technique may be very useful to monitor iron and zinc supplementation as single micronutrients in living systems through the construction of an INHIBIT logic gate.

A sensitive fluorescence biosensor was developed for microcystin-LR (MC-LR) detection using H1, H2, and H3 DNA probes as sensing elements. The aptamer in H1 can recognize the target. H2 was labeled with FAM and BHQ.

Cell membrane targeting sonodynamic therapy could induce the accumulation of lipid peroxidation (LPO), drive ferroptosis, and further enhances immunogenic cell death (ICD) effects. However, ferroptosis is restrained by the ferroptosis suppressor protein 1 (FSP1) at the plasma membrane, which can catalyze the regeneration of ubiquinone (CoQ10) by using NAD(P)H to suppress the LPO accumulation. This work describes the construction of US-active nanoparticles (TiF NPs), which combinate cell-membrane targeting sonosensitizer TBT-CQi with FSP1 inhibitor (iFSP1), facilitating cell-membrane targeting sonodynamic-triggered ferroptosis.

The advancement of lanthanide fingerprint sensors characterized by targeted emission responses and low self-fluorescence interference for the detection of biothiols is of considerable importance for the early diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Herein, the lanthanide "personality function tailoring" HOF composite sensor array is designed for the specific discrimination of biothiols (GSH, Cys, and Hcy) based on the activation of various luminescent molecules, such as r-AuNCs/luminol via HOF surface proximity. Lumi-HOF@Ce serves as a versatile platform for catalyzing the oxidation of -phenylenediamine (OPD) to generate yellow fluorescent oligomers, accompanied by the fluorescence attenuation of luminol.

Antibiotics are essential medicines threatened by the emergence of resistance in all relevant bacterial pathogens. The engagement of the molecular targets of antibiotics offers multiple opportunities for resistance to emerge. Successful target engagement often requires passage of the antibiotic from outside into the cell interior through one or two distinct membrane barriers.

Neurogenic microRNAs 9/9 and 124 (miR-9/9-124) drive the direct reprogramming of human fibroblasts into neurons with the initiation of the fate erasure of fibroblasts. However, whether the miR-9/9-124 fate erasure logic extends to the neuronal conversion of other somatic cell types remains unknown. Here, we uncover that miR-9/9-124 induces neuronal conversion of multiple cell types: dura fibroblasts, astrocytes, smooth muscle cells, and pericytes.
